First transatlantic trip from California to Germany in two and a half years. I was originally planning to take a Synik 22 which I have used as an EDC or a Synik 30 GE that I got in the spring of 2020, but never used so far. Well, the Synik 22 was too small for the new 14in laptop and the Synik 30 was way too big. So, the well traveled Synapse 25 came to the rescue. Here it is near the garden of small castle somewhere in Saarland.

I missed the Orange '62 Packcloth GB in June but snagged one in the low quantity restock. I have one of the other Packcloth ones and like the lightweight flexible feel... This orange is happy to me. Here it is between Zest 200d halcyon and the Texturized Orange from last August (sorry the lighting is funky). I like all of these oranges.
I had previously bought and returned Comeback Orange... Partly the shade of orange and maybe just the pairing with the blue didn't vibe me at the moment.
I definitely also like the darker ballistic burnt orange shades too... Haven't seen the other GB orange fabrics in person.Last edited by G42; 08-15-2022, 03:36 PM.“...Horace was the only cheese that would eat mice and, if you didn't nail him down, other cheeses as well"

UPS sure knows how to stretch out the anticipation! I had a delivery time of 2PM-6PM, checking the app every five minutes all afternoon, finally delivered @6:10PM!
I ordered the Aubergine Cambiata and the Nebulous Grey Cambiata, along with a Black 1050 Ballistic Smart Alec that became available just before my preorder shipped.
I’m looking forward to playing with them, test packing, seeing how they’ll work for me/us. First impressions are good!

So this is effectively the same challenge as before, and one of my anticipated use cases for the Cambiata. Every other month or so, I'm giving a workshop of sorts and have to pack a lot of stuff. And I'd like for it to go into as few bags as possible, ideally one. I don't care about easy accessibility since I'll unpack everything for the workshop, anyway.
The good news: It all fits into the Cambiata, with room to spare. Great!
Room for improvement: After the bottom layer, formed by the Small Snake Charmer (full of pens) and the two Cubelets, I ended up simply piling everything else on top. Need some more organisation there, maybe a PCSB or something.
Not so great: As others have already pointed out, the two zippered outside pockets can't hold much when you pack the main compartment tightly. I put the camera into the bottom inside pocket, which made it pretty much impossible to put anything into the zippered pocket on the outside.
Also, I'm not sure how to handle the shoulder strap. I don't want it to hang there when using the Cambiata in backpack mode. But it's not easily removed and then, where do I keep it? I just threw it into the main compartment, on top of everything that was already in there. Doesn't feel like the most elegant solution.
Summary (after the first real use, mind you): It has all the storage space I wanted and expected. Some details still to be worked out ...

I think one of my biggest gripes with the bag was the fact that, when you take advantage of the capacity enough to fill the bag, neither the backpack straps nor the provided shoulder strap are supportive enough to make it a comfortable carry.
They did toss in a couple “adapter” pieces to marry the Gatekeeper-style shoulder strap attachments to a clip-in style strap (not included).
I should say - if anyone is looking for an Ursa Brown Cambiata, I did send mine back!
Ultimately I couldn’t think of a scenario where the Cambiata solved the problem better than any of my bags at home.
Glad to hear you’ve found a way to make it work for yourself, though!I own a LOT of Tom Bihn bags, but here are the ones I'm using right now:

The two bags I’ve always wanted were a Stowaway and Night Flight Travel Duffel.
Yes, you read that right: “were.” Past tense.
As of today, I finally own both bags.
Most of my travel is overnight. A few times a year my wife and I might be able to get away for a long weekend. And once every year or two we take a weeklong family summer vacation. But, for the most part, all I ever NEED to pack is a change of clothes and toiletries - so smaller bags get used much more often than the heavy haulers.
I’m amazed at how much organization they crammed into a bag designed to fit under an airline seat (as an economy ticket personal item) and in that way it’s not unlike my Stowaway, or even my Co-Pilot, but all three are very different bags even if they are of a similar size.
You don’t get a true sense of how small the bag is until you see it set down next to another one, so I’ve also included a picture of the NFTD next to my CP.
Time to make the bag properly mine and put some zipper pulls on it!
