ETA, I don't know that Monarch has a big fan base overall compared to the other halcyons... Doesn't get a lot of love. I have Shop Bags that are super cheerful in it.
My Halcyon preferences are 100% informed by whichever Dyneema Gridstop fabric colors are currently popular with the ultralight backpacking and long-distance hiking gear makers.

For a long time the stock "Robic" colors over at ULA Equipment were very similar to Tom Bihn's Offerings: Iberian, Island, Ultraviolet, Original, Zest.

I've seen the same Taiga color used by some other bag makers recently, too.

So Monarch? Fjord? Sitka? Coyote? That's the stuff I like buying from Tom Bihn.

It just feels a little more unique since I won't see bags out on the trail made from same fabrics.

And TBH this is why I don't at all mind Cerylon, because that fabric and those colors are unique to the Tom Bihn brand.

Dusk and Moss are both winners in my book and I already own accessories made from and bags lined with those fabrics.

I own a LOT of Tom Bihn bags, but here are the ones I'm using right now:

Monarch hasn’t been shown very often in forum photos, but it really looks good when used next to saturated colors. It was used as the interior for the Little Swift encore release in 400d (New) Nordic Halcyon. And you can see it leading off my post about the Yeoman Duffel Aether Packing Cubes (now retired) where Carbon and Wasabi YD packing cubes are shown inside a Small Monarch Shop Bag.

I thought I would start a thread on the new Aether packing cubes offered for the 4 sizes of the Yeoman Duffel. They differ from the earlier Aether packing cubes for the Aeronauts and the Tri-Star by their depth, and also by the fact that they seem designed to be used in the Yeoman Duffels in "book end" fashion, with webbing handles to make it easy to pull them out.

I've already posted some pictures in the Need pictures of interior of mini yeoman packing cube that I'll show here, to start off size comparisons.

From left to right, in alternating colors (Violet, Carbon, Violet), the Yeoman Duffel Packing Cubes for Mini, Small, and Medium. For reference size purposes, that's a Solar Clear Quarter Packing Cube just beneath the Violet Mini Yeoman Duffel Packing Cube at the left, and a Steel/Solar Co-Pilot below the Violet Medium Yeoman Duffel Packing Cube at the right end.

Here are open views of the three Yeoman Duffel Packing Cubes displayed with some contents. The Mini Yeoman Duffel Packing Cube has a size 1 Travel Stuff Sack in Northwest Sky (stuffed with a down vest). It could also hold an Eagle Creek Specter II Quarter Packing Cube in Silnylon, which is slightly wider and taller than the Size Home TSS. To the right of the Mini Yeoman Duffel Packing Cube I show the Small Yeoman Duffel Packing Cube in Carbon, holding an Eagle Creek Specter II Quarter Packing Cube inside a Small Monarch Halcyon Snake Charmer, with a 3D Fabric Organizer Cube in Solar beside it. The Mini Yeoman Cube doesn't quite have the width to hold two 3D Organizer Cubes side by side if both cubes are stuffed, but I could fit one Eagle Creek Quarter Packing Cube beside the Size Home TSS, both of these stuffed.

To the right is an open Medium Yeoman Duffel Packing Cube, which is holding an FJN (or Side Kick -- similar size) at the bottom, with a flattened Small Cafe Bag in Grey Cordura on top. I've added a flattened First Aid Pouch, which is larger than the 3DOC, on top, to give another idea of scale. For reference, that's a Small All-Fabric Western Flyer Packing Cube in Halcyon above the Medium Size Yeoman Duffel Packing Cube. This is one of the packing cubes that I use in the Co-Pilot (for clothing use), and which I used for initial packups of both the Mini and Small Yeoman Duffel.

The Yeoman Duffel Packing Cubes are deep, and have webbing handles. They can conveniently be carried, too, in other bags. Here are two of the Small Yeoman Duffel packing cubes (Wasabi and Carbon) in front of a Small Shop Bag in Monarch. The zipper runs along 3 sides of the cube (and just around the corners of the fourth side), close to the edge, so that the open cube can be fully filled, and the webbing handles allow you to carry each cube easily.

Two of the Small Yeoman Duffel Packing Cubes are nicely sized to fit into a Small Shop Bag, as shown in the next picture

This is the top view of the two Small Yeoman Duffel packing cubes inside the Small Shop Bag. There's still room for inserting a medium organizer pouch, or other contents into the side pockets of the Small Shop Bag.

Put the Steel Halcyon Bantam on top and the oBlack E/TC on the bottom attachment points of the SA, more to try out the configuration with the Bantam vs needing the space for my trip to El Paso.

I originally was going to put the Bantam inside attached to the top webbing rails - fits just fine - but decided to put my laptop in the SA vs Pilot for the flight. The laptop ends up needing to tuck behind the Bantam at that point, which was vaguely annoying, so moved it to the outside. Holding the car charging cord, tissues, sunglasses, mints.

Ooh I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Halcyon SA with Cordura(? or is it Ballistic?) side panels. I’ve only seen Halcyon with Halcyon side panels. The Bantam looks like it belongs right there.

I was surprised to see that 400d Halcyon Bantams were still available many hours after the restock. A Steel Bantam like yours is currently on its way to me. I saw photos of it in the unofficial facebook group and thought it looked quite classy. And because Steel is pretty much gone for now, why not buy one? 🙃

Now for some rather irrelevant information: There’re some bantams and chickens living in the cemetery opposite my place. A little black bantam apparently crossed the road and made a convenience store her new home. Makes my day every time I see her.

😄 So *that's* why the chicken crossed the road! I've been wondering....

Yay Steel! I like all the halcyons but Steel and Original complement each other really well... The Original E/CT on the bottom looks good but the Steel would have balanced the Steel Bantam even better... I'll do that next time.
Yep, it's an old SA with black Cordura side and base, Original front, and Wasabi inside. My other newer SA is all Black Halcyon/NWSky. (Normally I don't prefer all black bags but I just checked my list and apparently I have TEN, so what do I know... though many are newer from my 400d Halcyon panic binge lol)
I still don't know what I'd really normally use the Bantam for vs a 3DOC/VPC/SE, but I couldn't resist 400d (see: Halcyon panic). I'm glad you're keeping me company in the addiction!
There are still some halcyon Bantams and E/TCs available, days after restock.

The Steel Bantam landed in my mailbox on Thursday afternoon but I didn't have time to open the package until today. This is my first Steel 400d Halcyon item and it's much darker in real life. I like the monochromatic look and wish they'd done the same for the Original Halcyon version.

I already own 3 Side Effects and thought the Bantam was too much of an overlap but I bought one anyway due to "Halcyon Panic" (lol). The little details do make a big difference when it comes to organisation in the SE vs the Bantam. I like to keep my 3x5 index card pocket jotter and extra index cards separate from my pens but still in the same compartment for easy retrieval together. The SE's pocket configuration doesn't allow for such organisation but the Bantam's interior stash pocket is perfectly sized for the jotter and extra cards.

The Bantam is slimmer than the SE which makes it a better bag-in-bag organiser for smaller bags like the Side Kick. For now, I'll use it as a stationery kit inside my SK and Synik 22 albeit a rather pricey one.

The Bantam fits perfectly in the bottom pocket of my Night Walk 400d Halcyon S22 for easy access.

And in case anyone's wondering how I managed to resist opening a TB package for days, I was simply too busy petting all the cats over the weekend, like this cutie hanging out in the courtyard of a café where I'd an after dinner coffee.

Here we go again. Gave another course last week. I was too busy to take photos so here are some from the belated unpacking back home.

Fewer devices this time, more toys & pouches. Also note the emergency chocolate :)

I'm giving fewer courses these days but I'm glad that I can one-bag everything I need with the Cambiata.

We were alerted today about a goof on some of the Steel Halcyon Bantams. We mistakenly made some of the last batch of them in 200d, rather than the posted 400d. We have a good sense of how many of these are out there but because of the nature of our inventory rolling in and out, it's tough for us to know *who* would have received an incorrect bag. If you received what you think might be the wrong fabric, and are unhappy with it, [email protected] and we'll figure out a good solution.

Really sorry for the goof on this!

I didn’t even realise that I’d received a Steel 200d Bantam as I’d only test packed and then left it in the cupboard. I did wonder why the fabric seemed floppier than my other 400d Halcyons but I simply dismissed it as differences in the hand feel between different coloured Halcyons. I checked my Bantam after someone posted about it in the unofficial facebook group a few days ago. Emailed TB over the weekend and they’ve already sent me a replacement Steel 400d Bantam plus a return label to send back the 200d one. Thanks for making it right!

I don't normally do unboxing type photos, but this was a very unusual pile of colour. I was hoping for a yellow MP in there, to be even more outrageous, but no dice. 🙃

Lots of Cerise & Seafoam to look at, a Viridian 210 Ballistic Small Ghost Whale (which almost looks dull against that blaze of pink), and a pile of the new Mystery Pouches.

Jury is still out for me on Cerise... I own nothing else in hot pink, but had to see it in full Sunglasses-Are-Required glory.
Have to poke at everything and see what I'm keeping...
On the Mystery Pouches, I was thinking it might be fun to trade like for like, in the Registered Users Swop section, if people are interested in playing Pouch Musical Chairs with them, since we can't pick the combo on those.

The other thing I wanted to see was Cerise with Zest because I do like some orange/pink combos, like sunsets, sherbet, etc. It's not exactly a match for tone, but close enough...I often put a STT inside a LTT when using as an organizer on my counter or whatever.

ETA: the Seafoam is definitely washed out in the photo. It's still a very light colour but not quite as pale as it seems from the photo.

And all those MPs have different (mostly ballistic) back colours vs front.

I think a Mystery Pouch section is a good idea. The unofficial facebook group has a thread where users can post photos of their pouches they want to trade or photos marked NFS (Not for Sale) to simply show what they’ve received.

Nice haul you’ve got there! I like the Small Deep Blue(?) pouch with blue binding. I think Cerise looks brighter than I expected in all the real world photos I’ve seen so far. I’ll be seeing it for the first time when my Constellation/Cerise Side Hustle arrives

Yeah, that would be fun to start a similar MP thread here if folks are interested. I know many are on FB but there are some of us who aren't FB users.
I'm pretty sure that Small is Deep Blue with a lighter blue binding, red trim tape, and it has a Coyote back. I hadn't even looked at the backs until after I took that first pic, ha!

Cerise is full-on bubblegum pink to me. When the light is better tomorrow I'll try some pics with other fabrics. I looks good with black (of course) and the oNordic and original Solar and Constellation. I reminds me the most of original Solar in terms of the clarity of it's colour and brightness.

I bought that Constellation/Cerise SH combo as well as Cloud/Zest - I'll let them battle it out. I'm probably going to be more comfortable with Cerise as an interior colour or very small items...even the E/TC is pushing it and the PCSB wasn't an option for me at all.

Would love to see photos when you’ve the time. I’m excited about finally getting another Constellation bag! Been in my “everything Night Walk Halcyon” phase for a while now but I miss having a lighter blue everyday carry bag. I don’t want a Ballistic backpack though so a small-ish shoulder bag is perfect. There’s some feedback in the unofficial facebook group about the Cerise and Seafoam Halcyon being thinner than the older 200d Halcyons, but it should be fine as an interior.
