I hope you took this after screening, the woman with the latex gloves is eyeing you up like the last donut in the staff room!

yes, it was right after we cleared security! :)

by the way, a nice advantage of traveling with a kid is that opting out of the body scan does not result in a pat down!

when i approached security and said that i'd like to opt out, the tsa officer said that because i'm traveling with a kid, that we as a family can come through the metal detector rather than the body scanner. that was nice!

The pat downs aren't so bad, it's the TSA officer trying to get to 5th base on the first date that bothers me!

Yeah. Especially when they experience gender confusion and assign you the wrong pat-downer. You'd think the X-ray machines would help with that, but noooo.

The week the TSA introduced the enhanced pat downs, I wore my kilt through security just to mess with them. Compared with pat downs I've experienced since, normally attired, I got off lightly. The poor screener was clearly worried whether the rumours were true, so he gave my junk a wide berth. A BDO did come over afterwards to "chat" with me about tartan, not-so-subtly trying to figure out if I was a harmless crackpot, or the other kind.

I must do it again sometime :-)

How many items will the waist pouch hold?

it depends on what the items are. tom bihn uses a standard measure - ASTM F2153 - 07(2012) - in indicating the capacity of a given bag. as indicated on the side effect description, the side effect has a capacity of 1.5 liters.

this trip, if i remember correctly, i was carrying in my side effect:

                      3 passports
                      iphone 5
earphones inside of a padded organizer pouch
a fairly stuffed tom bihn organizer wallet
                      house key
                      a pen

it could have held more, but that's what i carried inside of mine.

let us know if you are looking to carry something specific in the side effect.

Thanks maverick. Nothing specific. Looked to order said late may to ship. Will check back. Are you going to do a video review of the synapse 25?

The Synapse 25 on you, Maverick, looks like the Synapse 19 on me :-) I guess we have exactly the right height differential for the Synapse family! How is the new Side Effect working compared to the old one? Does the Dyneema make a significant difference over the Cordura version?

Oh, Badger . . . they've never given me the "wrong" pat-downer-person, because I have to take off my hoodie/jacket/whatnot, but it is highly embarrassing to get the pat-down from someone one is attracted to (in theory). At least I learned to stop wearing metal belts when flying years ago.

I have yet to be presented with that situation, but yeah. That would also fall into the realm of the super awkward.
