Bugging out with the aeronaut

Using the aeronaut as a "bug out" bag, my neighborhood was ordered to evacuate last night due to flooding and the aeronaut sprung into action! quickly swallowing up a weeks worth of clothes, toiletries, gadgets, a few valuables, a portable water filter and a few other essentials.

Ack! What's the latest/do you know when you'll get to go home? Did everyone make it out OK?

Stay safe Miking! I was watching footage of the Calgary floods and they look pretty gnarly.

Very safe!!! I know the phrase "do not cross means" doesn't mean "oh cmon, just one photo, its cool you are on a bike, it just looks fast flowing, they just put this up for stupid people! I'm sure you ill be fine, wade in, swift water rescue is standing by" and the evacuation was for 72 hours, my suite is on the second floor so I'm not too worried, but all my guitars are hanging up just incase!

The good news? Well I've always wanted riverfront property.... :p

I'm hoping it dries out fairly soon, I am supposed to be setting up stages for the Calgary Stampede " the greatest underwater *ahem* outdoor show on earth" right now my home arena where I do rigging at is submerged up to the 10th row of seats. Not a good thing to have happen before the busiest time of the year for concerts, Dixie chicks, Tim McGraw, Kiss and Carly Rae Jepson are all due to play there during the next few weeks.

I am doing fine, like the old saying goes," Home is where the Aeronaut is" or something like that. I have everything I need to live comfortably for as long as it takes for the river to go down. I have some pretty plush couch-surfing accommodations so that always helps!

I'm glad you're safe. I never considered a TB bag as a BOB bag. Interesting concept. Thanks.

I understand the need to be able to leave at a moments notice. For much of my life, I've lived in places prone to earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, power outages, plagues, locust--all right, maybe not the last two--and keep an emergency check list ready in case I have to scram tout de suite.

I already designated my two Aeronauts as my BOBs. Why? Because they are the most versatile, easiest to pack at the last minute, and seem to hold more than they are designed to. And if it's all that gets saved, I'd still be able to use them for traveling.

Wow - so sorry about the devastating flood. Both me and my hubby have pre-packed "go bags" A couple days worth of clothing, toiletries, etc. already to "grab and go" One of these is my Brain Bag. (Too big for everyday use for me, I have (2!) Synapses for typical daily backpack usages) Many disaster preppers actually love the Brain Bag for the quintessential B.O.B.

It doesn't really matter where you live, you can be forced to evacuate for a 100 different reasons with absolutely no time to pack anything (gas leak, your house is on fire - literally, criminal on the loose, hazmat accident in the area ... even a sudden illness or accident of a friend / loved one who lives a couple hours away, etc)

Yuck! Hope it dries out soon. Reminds me of living out of the 'ole Western Flyer after Sandy.

Thankfully it has been nowhere near as destructive as Sandy, then again our little foothills outpost is nowhere near as densly populated as the eastern seaboard. With the bad comes a lot of good, the police and fire department are turning away volunteers and people from all over are reaching out to help perfect strangers, when I was out taking pictures by the river there were several people who came up to make sure I had somewhere to stay and wasn't stranded. It's strange tht sometimes it takes a disaster to bring out the best in people.

And sometimes it take a disaster to remind you to call friends. I just got off the phone with a friend in Lethbridge who used to live in Calgary. THeu're fine and families still in Calgary are also fine. But if I hadn't seen this post I don't know how long it would have been before one of us called.
