Tom Bihn or not Tom Bihn, there is no try

It's taking too long for my boys to use 'the force' to pick up their minifigures so we're cleaning them up my way ;)

I'm liking the Lego collection almost as much as the usage of TB products!

I spot the Death Star and Tower Bridge in the background, along with the Millennium Falcon, and the X-Wing & Dagoba set!!

My 7 year old would be very impressed with that collection! He's a Lego nut and received the Death Star for his last birthday. He's very particular about his construction method and won't let anyone help unless they submit themselves to his unquestioned direction and control (has anyone guessed yet that he has an autism spectrum disorder?)! He got half way through building the Death Star - hours of work - and then he dropped it off the edge of the table or something and it fell apart! Aaaaargh!

Of course, my 5 year old, who is obsessed with Star Wars, would simply have commented that "Darth Vader doesn't pick up mini-figures," if I'd asked him to assist with some tidying! Apparently Darth Vader doesn't set the table, return books to the shelves or put his shoes on either, Force or no Force! :)

My 10year old is also on the spectrum and enjoys putting the Lego sets together. He too would spend hours working on them then take it apart or add to the structures. Once, the X-wing landed on the Tower Bridge and another time we found the Burj Kalifa set on the Death Star as the beam! He too gets frustrated if I build with him because I would follow the book step by step, whereas he would look at the structure and can see what's needed and build it based on that image, skipping several steps.

My 8 year old would get a crack out of 'Force or no Force'! He has finally stopped talking to me Yoda-like and switched to "Mommy, I know what we're going to today..."!

It sounds as if they share a similar gift in visual-spatial! My son follows the instructions but at break-neck speed, then when he's finished the models he pulls them apart and either designs new vehicles, machines or structures, or he repeats the original design from memory. I remember being astounded recently as he reconstructed a Lego Technic excavator entirely from memory. He never builds from the instructions a second time (although he does like to study them like a book occasionally!).

He lets me help but only because I've proved my worth at problem solving and because I don't try to show him how it "should" be done. And why would I, when he's so much better at it than I am? :)

Thank you. It is a growing collection that is exceeding my TB collection. Hmmmm......something not right there.....
My son is giving me the 'my mother is hopeless' look and saying I should have titled it "Tom Bihn or Bihn not, there is no try"
