Does the Navy Cordura coordinate well with the Navy Ballistic? I'm thinking I want to get the Navy to match my TS instead of the Dyneema, but only if it'll look good.

(Also, grr, I sorta hate Cordura because it's owned by Koch Industries, but what can you do?)

@jmoz I couldn't find a good picture that was specifically directed to comparing Navy Cordura with Navy Ballistic Nylon so you'll have to put up with my not-so-great pictures:

Here are two Navy (Cordura) organizer wallets seen from the back, lying on top of a Navy Ballistic Nylon Bag, and against an open Small Cafe Bag in Linen/Navy Parapack. There's also a small Navy Ballistic Nylon pouch (the back of the Fourth of July pouch). Navy Cordura is intermediate between the color of Navy Ballistic and Navy Parapack. I think the darker navy of the Cordura wallet to the left is more typical of its color.

@Pokilani I was seriously tempted by the French Blue DLBCase when I saw a picture of it. French Blue actually doesn't go badly with Nordic Dyneema, because the Nordic has a midnight cast to its blue, and I got the DLBPack in French Blue to go with my Aubergine A30, Nordic WF, Navy Cadet, etc. But I finally decided that in most cases I won't be carrying the the DLBCase outside with my Aubergine bags, and I just plain wanted to get plum again. The other reason for choosing plum is that I'm more likely to be carrying this bag around with my backpacks, and that includes my Indigo/Solar Synapse. I like Navy a lot, but those two blues are too close to have Indigo with Navy. The plum goes nicety with a range of my different accessories:

Color combinations Plum FJN, French Blue folded DLBP, Black Dyneema/Wasabi Side Effect, Sapphire Double Organizer Pouch.

Thanks all for the great insights for this new bag. I am interested specially as a travel work day bag inside my Tristar or western flyer.

It does however seem to overlap a lot with the pilot in this regard (especially a lighter dyneema pilot). Size is similar although the weight and packability is better. But is it really that much lighter and packable to really need this over say a dyneema pilot?

Just curious on people's views on this.

I never would have guessed a Freudian slip as a new accessory that you were hinting at! I picked the S25 size for the DLBP. Not sure that I'd need it for the S19, but we'll see.

Today was a good day! I'm stoked about the Parental Unit, but the Daylight Briefcase is just what I was looking for!

Until I packed up my office in preparation of vacating it (new job! starts Monday!), I left my Black Ballistic Pilot at work. I used it to tote my laptop, a notebook, water bottle, mouse, and power cord to the other side of the building for extended meetings and whatnot. The Pilot was a bad match for this task - too small for my laptop and too large for all the stuff I was carrying - but I love my Pilots so much that I didn't care. It made me happy to use it, even when it was poorly packed.

A Cadet would have been a better choice, but I don't have one. The DLBC would have been the perfect design, but definitely too small for my laptop. At the new job, though, it just might be perfect. There's a Macbook waiting for me there. I just need to wait until Monday to see what size the new computer is...but gosh, some of you will have your DLBCs by then! How can I stand to wait??!??!

@PaulT00 and I actually addressed this question in the New Designs! thread, hence his remark that it didn't take @scribe long to cave in and decide the DLBCase was worth ordering.

The Pilot works better as a bag you might use for overnight travel use, or if you want to carry along a water bottle or make more use of the Side pockets for storage. But it is less of a minimalist briefcase than the DLBcase, because a good deal of the arranged space is not oriented for flat, papers, laptops, etc. That's great if you're going to use them for items that are shaped to require more volume, like a water bottle, or packing cubes of clothing. iIt's not as useful,if you want something truly minimalist at a workshop or conference, and something that carries lighter and closer to the body.

On the other hand, I think these bags (both Pilot and Daylight Briefcase) look less strictly "professional" than the Cadet, if you need that appearance in an all Ballistic Nylon, conventional briefcase shape, and if you need to carry a larger (e.g. 17") laptop. I tried the Lenovo W520 on the DLBCase, and I can't fit this wide-screen laptop into the bag. But, for 13", 11", and some 14" laptops (see @tpnl for those combinations), the DLBCase is truly a minimalist briefcase.

Access to pockets is different -- I find the unzip of the front horizontal and diagonal pockets easier than for the Pilot. I particularly like the fAct that I could put a rolled up DLBPack into the back zippered pocket, should I want, and then switch to carrying the DLBCase, and any other items, in that backpack, should I choose.

Just my thoughts. YMMV, I only got this bag late Friday night to play around with. Also, I posted some pictures in the Thread on Freudian Slips

ETA: Since I had to correct some typos (darn iOS on screen keyboard and autocorrect), I'll also add that I also find accessing the front diagonal pocket easy, since I'm right-handed, and my hand naturally slips forward into the pocket whether I carry the bag on my right shoulder or cross-body on my left shoulder. You can easily slip in envelopes and letters, access airline boarding passes and itineraries, or keep these in a medium double organizer pouch that you pull out of this pocket. (I haven't decided whether that fit is a bit too close to outweigh the convenience of just pulling out an envelope.)

Badger, you know, the dog and the bag don't have to be near each other in real life. You can put the photos next to each other and pretend! (I mean, ahem, not like I'm asking for more cute dog pictures. When I already have a very happy and adorable dog in my lap right now.)

The reviews & pictures just make me wish I could get one now! I've been using the Large Cafe Bag for work recently but this lovely new bag would work so much more smoothly . . . maybe I can get one in a few years? (Of course, I have no idea what kind of job I'll have at that time.) I love the bits of the design which call to the Field Journal Notebook.

In terms of being a secret advance product tester, I've been angling to test the next generation Citizen Canine for, well, since the original was discontinued! I know it likely won't ever happen, though.

Like the DLBP, the lining for all Cordura versions is Steel Parapack.

Thank you Badger for posting this! I personally know the effort and hassle involved in gathering "all the bags", then arranging them just so, not getting distracted with how cool they all are, falling into a spiral of petting, comparisons, reexamination, culminating in finding a new use, getting caught, then trying to pass it off as a cleaning effort, then working to get the lighting just right. . . Anyway, thanks.
