My Synapse 19 and Co-Pilot went to my porch for a photo shoot.

Then they reminisced about past adventures, particularly visiting Himeji Castle in pouring rain, en route to Hiroshima and Miyajima. They did not know they were heading straight into a typhoon.

      That's lovely Walker

I'm always amazed that apparently (per Darcy) original Nordic wasn't popular when it came out.

It was quite true and for a lot of reasons. First all sorts of items were debuting in Aubergine around that time. There was no prior experience with 400d Halcyon. A lot of people flat out refused to consider it for the outside of bags and they only had the experience of the 200d Halcyon to go on. You know that we have a number of forum members outside of the US who are reluctant to try 400d Halcyon for their travel bags because it’s expensive to pay shipping costs and they’re not convinced of the long term durability. There were also a lot of people who absolutely wouldn’t consider a white grid pattern fabric. Unless you uploaded a high enough resolution photo, aliasing from the pixel sampling tended to show up as moiré patterns. And as a smaller company then they couldn’t afford to overextend themselves if people decided to wait several months to decide to try new products.

I ended up canceling the Aubergine/Hemp/Steel Imago that I had been planning to buy as soon as I heard one was in the works, so I could order the Swift and the Synapse in Nordic, because I figured if they didn’t sell enough when it was first released there might never be an opportunity to order it again, and I had to trust that I would be able to pick up the Imago later.

And, yes, by July they were thinking about dropping Nordic from their product line. backpackcan tell you about the spammer entry that drew attention to the thread, and the forum members who posted that they had been planning to try this but hadn’t ordered.

ETA G42 If you go over to Ravelry, type in Nordic spammer into the discussion search and press Return you’ll see the post where I detail all the information. Of course the links to the TB forum posts and threads that I provided didn’t survive the vBulletin 5 upgrade reindexing, but fortunately I also quoted all the most relevant passages so you can pretty much just read straight through.

That was a good read, thanks. I especially like some of the replies and comments about the extent of their stash; I feel seen!

A month or so ago I snagged a halcyon Swift that someone had returned because a lady in my knitting class liked mine & was sad to hear the material was discontinued... So I was able to facilitate that introduction to TB.

Then I had a good friend I've known since college in town this past weekend who (cough) commented on the extent of my TB stuff. 😱
But when the new small bag she had just bought for this trip failed to work as expected (poor magnetic closure, tsk), I raided my emergency TB gift stash and she's now sporting a NW/Açai SE with a Pocket Pouch holding extra cards.

It's good to have a Stash 'o Stuff

My Burnt Orange Side Kick accompanied me on a train trip to see the incomparable Youn Sun Nah in Karlsruhe last night.

                  Yay! CarsonC.

                  S19 in oNordic rules!

I bought my nieces and nephews S19 when they were in elementary school. Some are now starting their careers; the others in college. They are still rocking their S19s.

So yeah - your children could potentially inherit your S19. :)

                    It's LA Yarn Crawl weekend

I was able to visit a couple places after work yesterday and carried the retired Cocoa/Olive Utility Tote along with some of my new YSS that just arrived. The outside pockets are one of the things that I wish had carried over to the Swift - very useful for stashing the papers and patterns.
At one of the shops, a volunteer was very interested in the bag, so I went into full Bihnion Mode and explained the company, the Knitty connection, the newer Swift, Shop Bags, etc. She got on the website and immediately bought a Swift, so another convert has joined the hive! 😱

More Crawling today and I'm also volunteering at my local yarn shop today & tomorrow too, so I think the Pile 'O Yarn will increase.

First day at my new job I learned that my co's all employee mtg would be in less than two weeks in Phoenix, and if I was able to go I had to let the travel mgr know by the end of the next day. LOL. I bought the Techonaut 30 because Black Halycon and the Parental Unit because I figured I'd need a messenger style bag with pockets at some point, but little did I know that they would be used for travel so soon.

Originally, I was trying to take the T30 with the DLBP inside and carry my SK as my purse/plane bag, but even though this was a 2.5 day conference, there was just too many extra things I needed to bring that maxed out the T30. My 3DCOC, small SC, and non TB toiletry kit still needed to be packed, so I swapped the DLBP and SK for the PU. SK things went into the PU's outer pockets and the 3 small organizer bags went into the main compartment. I used my mini OP Tech SOS strap instead of the strap it came with.

The T30 holds a lot and I as I suspected, definitely fit my packing style better than my A30. I had to bring roughly 5 days of clothes given a theme night (!!!) which was the same night of our all-company picture, half a suit for professional headshots, biz casual clothes for day, and casual clothes for evening. All my clothes/pjs/undies fit inside an Eagle Creek large and medium packing cube, and I carefully folded my suit jacket on top. Inside the interior lid pocket was my A5 discbound notebook and a small GW pouch that had my pens and highlighters. I was able to wedge my relatively small makeup bag inside the main compartment, above the two packing cubes. All of that practically filled the entire main compartment of the T30. The bottom pocket held a pair of flats, two pairs of sandals, a large scarf I use as a blanket, and two packable reusable shopping bags. 14" laptop inside a sleeve in the laptop compartment.

I only took a picture after I finished packing at 5am the morning of my flight back home.

Before this trip, I said I wanted a T45, but I'm honestly rethinking that choice. The T30 was heavy, but not uncomfortable to wear -- even while running through CLT to catch a tight connection. But I can definitely see how an extra 15 liters can make the T45 too heavy for me to carry comfortably.

Traveling & birding with the SK on the Cape Fear River right as it meets the Atlantic in N.C.

I would say this is possibly my last trip with the SK since the all new SH is sitting at home waiting on me to return, but I don't imagine that I'll ever park this bag for long. Instead, I may just find a new use for it IF the SH works out. I haven't had a look at it yet, but looking at this photo makes me wonder how big the SH will be when carrying cross body. Feel free to chime in with any photos of your own on how it carries, but if not, I guess I shall know soon enough! :)

See anything especially unusual or exciting?

I noticed that the SH is longer/wider of course, so I have the strap a bit shorter than the SK so it's more diagonal in my back and it hasn't bothered me yet... I'm also wider than you are though

Just received my SH yesterday and very quickly tried it out. Was surprised that the wider strap seemed to keep it more stable and in place much better than my SK. I do so like the extra room it affords. Since G42 will ask I did get the Black ballistic/NWS Halcyon.

                              Ok, so I'm predictable!

                              But thank you 😉

Okay good to know! My SK really just wants to be a crossbody bag/purse. In the photo, I've it pulled higher than I normally do since I'm hiking and in a lot of undergrowth, maritime forest flora, etc, but I usually have it bumping against my hip or bum when I'm in town. I do like the ease of adjusting the height of the SK, and I'm glad TB designed the SH to be just as easy to adjust.

G42 yes some good spots! I'm just a casual birder but have logged a lot of various hawks, bald eagles, ospreys, shore birds, mergansers, painted buntings, and also very thrilled to spot a red-headed woodpecker which is a new sighting for me regardless of having spent years in this same area. It's hatching/baby season so those are always quite fun to see!
