That's a good video! It's the one that actually sold me on the PU and I ended up getting that exact color combo too.

If you have used this setup how did the PU carry over the backpack?
    Thanks!

I have both bags and while I haven't used them for a trip, I tried out that combo at home and it felt fine. You'd want to put the PU on first and then the S25 though, otherwise it would either slip off or sit awkwardly on your shoulder since the backpack strap sits where the PU strap would also sit.

I currently use the PU as a purse for myself (no kids) and it's great.

I wanted to slightly modify the post above, the Luminary could be an ideal backpack alternative for those who can travel with a minimalist EDC/personal carry on.

In International Airports with long lines and long treks, due to the annoying sprawling duty free area, between security checks, the Travel Bag (A 45 or Tristar) is handheld while the S19 is carried backpack style.

On a recent Intra U.SA trip, I tried the Tristar/LSB combo, it is fine at small airports, but a logistic nightmare in International Airports.

The Zip Tote SB, pairs beautifully for people with rollers, especially children.

But, with another TB Luggage Bag, the Daylight Backpack, S19 and S25 are better.

I didn't mention the Luminary, but it is serious consideration due to the ultra soft and comfortable shoulder straps.
It could be an ideal backpack alternatives for those who can travel with a minimalist carry-on.

Not OP, but I can chime in on a possibility. You can attach the absolute shoulder strap to the S19 using carabineer clips. One on the carry handle and one on a waist strap loop. It carries rather nicely that way in my tests. I haven't been on a trip like that yet, but that's my planned combo (A45+Synapse 25) for long trips.

+1. Your talk so you can use the S25 for edc easy in place of the19 but you want that crazy great shoulder strap that TB has for your a30

I can travel pretty much indefinitely with an A45 and Pilot but my clothes and shoes can be pretty big too.

I would rather have the space and not need it than the other way around.

I used to carry a TriStar and Super Ego or Empire Builder and loved that combo too but I just love the size and proportions of the Pilot and I can not let it be!?

I really can not place a bag under the seat but the Pilot lets me make it look like I have for takeoff and landings and they never say anything even if it is sitting clear of that area which mine always is.

While not a backpack option I traveled for nine days with a small Yeoman duffle and a Pop Tote. I added an Absolute Shoulder Strap to the duffle and wore it crossbody while the Pop Tote was on my shoulder. This was a comfortable setup. If I needed my laptop I would have brought my Pilot instead of the Pop Tote.

This solution works well for me. I also keep an Absolute Strap on my A30 so that if I want to switch the loads, I can put the smaller pack on my back and carry the A30 cross-body. (Or my husband will carry it, or I can use the strap to drape it over a roller suitcase, etc. etc.) Plus, the Shop Bag is handy to have as a shopping tote at my destination, or as overflow when I've pulled out all my stuff during the flight and need to stow it all quickly when it's time to deplane.

Why didn't I think of this?? It's brilliant. I'm planning an 8 day trip and want my new Synapse 19 for my personal item, but the last time I travelled I carried the heavier bag on my shoulder and I struggled. This could be the perfect solution.

    I took a plunge.

Yesterday, I bought a Mars Red S25 Guide's Edition on Ebay. Brand new and never used. I paid more than I should have, but I couldn't resist. To me, it's the most beautiful bag I've ever seen, and eminently practical. The appeal is almost possessive, perhaps for reasons of nostalgia -- it reminds me of the pack I owned 35 years ago, when I was 22 and hitchhiking around the country.

I'd rather do that than get a bargain on something that's less appealing. If i'm happy with it, I'll be using it till I'm dead. If I'm not, I'll take the loss and resell it.

I'll probably buy either a DLBC or MCB for days when I don't need to carry much, and mix and match those two with things I already own for now. More TB to come next year, perhaps an A30 or WF.

Thanks again for the advice and suggestions.

I've had great success with the A45 plus the Pilot.

Or the A45 plus the Sidekick. I've actually put the SK in the A45 for part of the travel.

It depends on whether I want a briefcase type bag (the Pilot) or a purse type bag (SK, and yes, my husband will carry a SK as a man-bag).

I've also travelled for 3 days using just the Pilot, if I'm not carrying electronics. But I'm a light packer.
