    Ego strap

If you use an absolute strap on the Ego, is there any way to take it off and use it on an Empire Builder?

    #2
The Ego uses the toothed-slide system, whereas the Empire Builder uses the D-ring attachment points. So, the short answer is that whichever bag you're about to order, ask them if they'll include a set of snaphooks if your bag won't include them.

If you already have an Ego but are looking at ordering an Empire Builder, for example, you would not need to ask for any additional hardware because you can just remove the snaphooks the Empire Builder will come with and put your strap on the Ego.

I posted a little while ago about a possible adapter system that would obviate the need to swap hardware but didn't hear anything. I can still hope

    Hope this helps you!

we do have a piece that you can use to utilize the absolute strap on your empire builder and ego.you simply weave it through the ego and it has a big d ring you can hook your ab strap onto.

email me [email protected] and we can we can set you up with some stuff to make this work.

          Kcee,

I already have an Ego with Absolute Strap, so I suspect the solution you are mentioning won't work as I'd also need a strap for a new EB, if that makes sense.

It's not a big deal, really. Just making sure there wasn't a solution I was unaware of. Buying another strap won't kill me!

yes i believe i understand, you want to be able to use the same ab-strap on both bags without having to take the hardware off and on every time you switch using the bag.

we have a piece so that you can use the ab-strap with the hardware on both bags.

it looks exactly like the item pictured at the top of this thread :

if you want to buy another strap all together that's fine, but we do have another option

kcee is right - I completely forgot about this adapter when you asked me, Lawcomic. Sorry about that.
Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

That adapter was for the 2" wide size of the straps on the older ID bags. The current ID bag, Ego, and Super Ego bags use 1.5" wide straps. Do you mean that the adapter (or similar connector option for these bags) is sized for 1.5" wide straps? I have the adapter shown in the picture, and it doesn't match the strap width for those bags.

                  moriond -

Yes, we have a 1.5" adapter. We haven't advertised it much or offered it on the Web site because we don't feel that is a very elegant solution, and it isn't how the bags were intended to be used. But for those who want it, it does exist.

Ok, I may be dense. In fact that's a given.

But, does this adapter also include the hook for the strap? The strap I have doesn't have a hook that would fasten onto the pictured adapter.

To be clear...I already have an Ego with an Absolute Strap. That strap does NOT have the hook and is attached directly to the Ego. The solution shown would seem to work with a strap bought for a bag that has an attachment thing already to make it work on a messenger style bag, but it does not look like the inverse situation would work.

I don't know if I am making sense.

Is there a link to this product anywhere...I can't find it.

It does not include a hook, but it functions as a giant "d-ring" - the thing you clip the Absolute Strap snaphook to.

It is not a product, so there's no product page for it.

My point, which I am not making well, is that the strap I have now does not have a snap hook. So if I buy a bag that uses a snap hook system, it seems that I'd have to buy a new strap. Again, this is not a big deal, but now I feel I must make sure I know that I am making sense.

A losing battle on most days.

You guys' level of customer service is out of control.

Just FYI to everyone, it looks like a combo attachment/snap hook is available.

Thanks to kcee, Darcy and everyone else for their input!

Vote for the D ring and other adapters

I just got my EGO. I'm very happy with it except for the QAM strap. I got this strap so that I could adjust it to the back. However, with the current load I carry, it is not as comfortable as I want.

Therefore, I am ordering the absolute strap to use for daily use.
I'll use the QAM strap for times when the load is lighter, such as on vacations to carry jackets, ponchos, etc.

That is why I would have prefered the D ring attachments. Makes for easy swapping.

As I searched the forums, I saw different threads that addressed this situation and offered solutions.

There was one solution adaptation to the absolute strap that allowed the attachment of waist strap.

I would like to suggest that these modifications be added to the web site for purchase.

I think all bags should come with the D rings or as an alternative. If there was some additional cost involved, it couldn't be much.
Been there. Done that. Can't remember.
