Which bag would work as camera bag now?

I realize that there may be a camera insert coming down the pipeline...however, I am in need of something now and would appreciate some help. Looking for a bag to hold a DSLR (EOS Rebel XS) and two lenses (18-55 and 55-250). Would probably need some sort of specific padding or protection as well. Which currently available Bihn bag would work best, and any suggestions as to protection would be appreciated.

for the body and those two lenses, along with the usual accessories (lens cleaner, battery charger, memory cards, that sort of thing), you could do this very nicely inside the ruck's sac if you want to carry a backpack. i like the ruck's sac for your needs because the draw string opening allows for quick and easy access to all of your contents. the accessories i mentioned can go in the front pouch. you can use neoprene cases for your lenses and bodies inside the ruck's sac.

if you'd prefer a messenger style bag, i think you could also do this with a large cafe bag or the imago. again, the neoprene cases for each of the lenses and the body will keep them nicely inside the large cafe bag.

zing makes neoprene cases for cameras.

did your lenses come with their own pouches?

there are a number of companies that make lens cases out of neoprene and other materials. i haven't used any of them - i've only used the cases that my lenses have come in when i've needed to pack them individually.

but check B & H - they have customer reviews of the products that they sell.

what typo? you mean you haven't seen the new 24-700mm f/2.8 lens for nikon? that was the whole reason i switched to nikon!

hehe - i couldn't help but laughing again and again when i saw your comment . indeed, that was a typo. i have the 24-70mm f/2.8 lens .

if anyone made a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, it would be too big for even the aeronaut! nikon's 600mm f/4 lens would fit in the aeronaut, in case you were curious.

the biggest lens i have used is canon's 400mm f/2.8 IS L series glass. that is the only lens that i have used that i could not hand hold. even on a monopod, it is difficult to manage. it will also fit in the aeronaut.

the 300mm f/2.8 IS L series from canon is more managable, but even that i prefer on a monopod.

well, i decided it would be more fun to make a short video rather than just show a picture...

actually, we have a picture to start...

the image you see attached shows from left to right, top to bottom, a sapphire / olive ruck's sac, a can of soup from amy's kitchen - let me stop for a second and explain. i decided to place this here just to provide a sizing perspective - how big is everything we're working with relative to a can of soup. it seemed like a bright idea at the time. now it just seems funny!

anywho, continuing right along with our inventory... a large plum / wasabi cafe bag - again, for perspective. the neoprene case from zing. the nikon D700 body with 24-70mm f/2.8 lens attached. the nikon provided pouch for the 50mm f/1.4 lens and the lens itself. the nikon sb-900 flash and the nikon provided case for this flash.

Thanks so much for your effort! I would indeed prefer the messenger style, and am curious if that same equipment would fit into the large cafe bag as well?

it will fit, but at least for the D700 body, i think we'll have to take the lens off the body and stand the body up rather than have it laying down. you shouldn't have to do that with your canon rebel xs.

I'm not sure how it would work with your lenses but a non TB option is the Red Oxx Gator. It has good padding already so all you need is protection for the equipment in the bag. I use wraps made by Domke. I like the Gator because it's padded, not too big, and has a zipper down the middle so when open it's easy to get stuff in and out of. It's not perfect but it's been good for me so far.

currently I am using a Naneu Pro messanger bag style. It has lots of compartmetns for extras like memory cards, charges, batteries ect...It does not look like a camera bag as it looks more like a man bag which I like. It has two fuzzy protective bags inside that can be divided as you see fit. I find that it fits my canon 30d with my attached 24-105 and in the other section I can fit my 17-55. But that is about it for room.
I am getting a packsafe strap for the bag.
But so far I am loving it beats teh backpack I use to shlep around.
