Side Effect or Packing Cube Shoulder Bag as small DSLR bag?

Hi, I have preodered the Panasonic GF1 with the 14-55 lens and was wondering if it will fit either of the bags. The GF1 is similar in size as the Olympus EP-1. Thanks.

    hi!

the panasonic gf1 with the 14-45mm lens will fit inside of both the packing cube shoulder bag as well the side effect.

let me see if i can get you a picture of it at least with a side effect...

Thanks, Mav. Do you think the Packing Cube Shoulder bag will be sturdy enough for the camera? I will probably carry the camera around my neck or across my shoulder most of the time when we travel, but I like the light weight of the Cube Shoulder bag. Otherwise, the Side Effect would work as well.

        hi ltsching,

the packing cube shoulder bag will be sturdy enough. however, you may want to place the camera into some sort of padded case inside of the packing cube shoulder bag if your camera will be in there with other stuff.

I have both the Packing Cube Shoulder bag and the Side Effect. Although the Packing Cube Shoulder bag is sturdy enough to carry the camera, you might consider whether you plan to carry just the camera or other items in the bag as well. The main reason for bringing up this point is that the light-weight and flexible nature of the Dyneema in a bag that is longer in it's largest dimension than the Side Effect (11.75" x 7.75" x 3") vs. (8.7 x 5 x 2") will cause it to sag if you're just carrying the 7 lb camera, which only takes up a small portion of the length of the bag. If you plan on stuffing the bag with a light jacket, or keeping a book in the slash pocket, that would help it to keep its shape better when carried as a shoulder bag. While the extra zippered front does make this easier to keep its shape than one of the end cubes of an Aeronaut, this is still a lightweight bag, as described in this post.

            hi ltsching,

this video shows how the panasonic gf1 with the 14-45mm lens, as well as the leica m8 with 28mm f/2.8 lens, fit inside of the side effect.

let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Maverick, for the video. I ordered and received the Side Effect in Indigo and was also able to get the GF1 for my upcoming overseas trip. If it weren't for your assurance that the camera would fit in the Side Effect, I would never have considered it. I am really looking forward to using the camera and the bag in the field! Thanks again.

                congratulations ltsching!

you're going to love the side effect!

i was surprised by the size of the 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 lens that came with the gf1. it's nice to have the zoom for a trip, but the 20mm f/1.7 lens might be a nice compact option if this is the camera you want to keep in your bag all the time.
