Well, I just re-watched Maverick's excellent demonstration video on the Smart Alec backpack, which can be found on Tom Bihn's YouTube Channel. I want to thank Maverick for confirming that the Smart Alec does indeed have a poron-filled top grab handle.

I guess the only question left for me is whether the Brain Bag has a similar kind of padded grab handle.

    Thanks again, Maverick.

I prefer the webbing handle - it makes it possible and easy to do things like hang the Synapse on a hat rack. Very handy after I've been out in pouring rain!

Yes, the Smart Alec has a padded handle and the Synapse doesn't. I asked about this while the Synapse was still in development and got this reply.

I don't know how to link a thread, but it was titled "Padded carry loop for Synapse". If you type that into the search function, you should find it.

Yes, I agree. The product wording can occasionally vague.

The photos of the Brain Bag and Smart Alec seem to suggest they both have poron-filled top grab handles, but there are no explicit close-ups to confirm this.

    Hi MtnMan,'
My plum Synapse has nylon webbing for a grab handle. I've considered wrapping it with purple para cord which might make it a bit more comfortable.

I have a Brain Bag on order and if the pictures and description are correct it will have some kind of padded handle. This is the closest thing I can find to what might be a description of the Brain Bag's top grab handle. "The Brain Bag has a quality nylon/foam/nylon laminated pad on 2" webbing handle" I found this part of the description a bit confusing.

    Happy travels,
    Moose

    TB backpacks' top grab handle

I just wanted to post this question to confirm something:

I own a SuperEgo briefcase. I love the top-situated poron-filled grab handle. I often carry my SuperEgo by this handle. Is it true that Tom Bihn backpacks all feature the same poron-filled grab handle on top?

    TIA,
