    Hauling around a GPS device

I already own a Tom Bihn Super Ego briefcase, and I'm thinking about getting a backpack (mostly likely a Brain Bag or Smart Alec) for everyday use and for hiking. I'm also looking into getting a handheld GPS device.

I'm wondering if there are any other Tom Bihn bag owners here, especially hikers and people who work outdoors quite a bit, who also own dedicated GPS devices. How do you carry your device? Do you use a key strap to hook it to your bag, or do you seal it in an organizer pouch? Which compartment do you typically carry your device in?

Seeing how other people carry their handheld device may help me decide which backpack to get and which, if any, accessories to get with it.

Depends on the GPS device you have. I carry mine in a dedicated pouch that's attached to a molle capable bag. I've been looking at getting a wrist mounted version though

People keep pointing me toward Garmins. I've used someone else's eTrex basic handheld before, and if/when I get one of my own, it will likely be a handheld unit. I'm not sure if it'll be a basic eTrex or one of the fancier ones. I'm a recreational trails volunteer and sometimes we do on-the-ground work that would make a GPS device handy. So a handheld is a must, but I may lean toward one that has more bells and whistles like topo maps.
