    Advice for wheelchair traveler, ordered a T30

    Hi everyone,

    I just ordered a Technonaut 30 after reading about Tom Bihn in the NYTimes. Excited to travel with my new bag here soon.

    Wondering if any one else here is wheelchair bound, and uses a manual chair? I fly regularly with a folding wheelchair (Quickie Xenon2 FF if anyone's curious) as a 5'9" woman - and it's been a real struggle to find bags that enable me to skip the luggage carousel. I have high hopes for the T30.

    I can drape most bags over the back of my chair, or wear it in a front-facing configuration. My goal is to pack light for 7 days as a business traveller, using only this bag and my bodypoint wheelchair mobility bag (I haven't been able to find anything more elegant that clips to the front of a chair - it's absolutely necessary for phones, passport, documents, wallet and medication)

    Any advice from other users about configuring this bag to be worn in my lap, straps backwards over my shoulders while I navigate through airports and cities?

    If you haven't already, consider reaching out to the fine folks in Customer Service (email or call) and ask their input too. They have lots of knowledge about how customers have used the bags over the years.

    This is a blog post from 2015, so before the Techonauts were around, but the Techonauts are direct descendants of the Aeronauts, so hopefully this will be somewhat useful.

    I was a month old the first time I was on a transatlantic flight. I haven't stopped traveling since. I didn't have any Tom Bihn gear back then, though I probably could have fit in the Aeronaut (don't try this at home!). I now own and routinely use several TB bags and accessories. In fact, I am writing this from a hotel



    There are also accessory straps sold that allow some bags to loop onto wheelchairs and strollers; not exactly what you were asking about, but you might find it useful.

    Our Wheelchair or Stroller Straps allows one to hang any TOM BIHN bag with 1-1/2" d-ring shoulder strap attachment points on to the back of a stroller or wheelchair. Wheelchair or Stroller Loops attach to our bags through the bag’s plastic triangular “D-ring” part. The Loops don't clip into the circular hole where you’

        Coyote is very nice!

        Yeah, the straps are more for the smaller bags, I should have been clearer. moriond would probably know, but I think they were introduced with the Parental Unit (nominally a diaper bag, but many folks use for general use).

          Hi! Welcome to Tom Bihn, I hope you'll enjoy.

          Unfortunately I don't have any experience with wheelchairs to share, but I do love minimalist packing! My primary travel bag for the past few years has been an Aeronaut 30, the direct predecessor to the T30. My trips are typically 5 days or so but I have no problem packing 7 days in if I need to. In fact, a few years before I found Tom Bihn I took a two-week trip across parts of Japan with a single bag roughly the same size and shape. (Different internal organization.)

          I hope the T30 fits your needs well, and look forward to hearing about your travels with it!
