I used a brain bag to carry the following on a recent trip overseas:
1 x 15" laptop
1 x ipad
1 x canon 5d
3 x canon lenses (135, 35, 50mm)
1 x kindle
+ more junk
The camera was in the camera bag, and lenses were in separate lenses cases, and it all fit one compartment in the brain bag. It was heavy, but it wasn't a big deal. I'm glad I was able to fit everything into one bag while traveling. I'm sure it would be much easier without the laptop.

I am going to throw my vote for the synapse. I just came back from a trip with my family and used to carry a camera plus lenses, an ipad, and a macbook air. Worked fabulously. i believ there is a maverick video that demonstrates how to use a synapse as a camera bag.

It's not a Tom Bihn insert. I got it at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Camaroo-Inc-DS...dp/B00348J5Q0/

This is the one thing driving me crazy, where is the camera insert?
Please tell me what you found?

I think maybe the Synapse could be a better choice? It seems a bit more structured than the Imago.
I am considering it myself (don't tell my husband) to carry my DSLR and iPad plus accessories.

Need suggestions for camera + ipad bag
I'm traveling soon, and want to carry my Nikon D90 with a zoom lens, batteries/charger, memory cards, iPad + accessories (charger, connection kit). Plus the normal and sundry walking about town stuff (a few organizer pouches worth).
I bought an insert for the camera based on a thread here; it was supposed to fit in the medium Cafe bag that I have, but it doesn't really. Even if it did, I couldn't fit my iPad (1st gen) in the bag with it.
I have a Buzz which I love, but it doesn't fit my camera well; a medium Cafe bag (ditto) and a Tristar (great for travel, but not so good for walking around town).
I tend to prefer messenger style bags for walking around, but I don't want a bag that is too big for this stuff. Is there a Goldilocks bag for me? I would consider a backpack style, but I'd like my camera to be easily accessible for those candid city shots
