Hmm. As a point of reference: My Absolute straps (I have a few on different bags) have never worn to that extent, but I wouldn't say the oldest of them looks "brand new." But good shape, nonetheless, and after 2 (3?) years of bouncing along, definitely not as worn-looking as the one you picture.
