    Dyneema question

Regarding the new(er) Ultraviolet dyneema fabric that is being used in many new(er) versions of Tom Bihn's travel bags, like the Aeronaut...

While I am still waiting to build up $$$ for a major purchase (luggage + numerous accessories), I've been comparing some of the color choices. I like how Steel or Navy exteriors look, and I like how you can choose them with Solar dyneema. The Solar obviously makes it easier to see in the bag.

But Solar is not available with all the exterior colors. You can't get Solar with the new Forest-green exteriors. In the Forest (which I'm looking at) you can get Iberian-red and Ultraviolet. I'm wondering what the visibility is like with these interior dyneema schemes. Has anyone had any exposure to the Solar and the Iberian or Ultraviolet? What did you think?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,

My travel bags predate the newer Iberian and Ultraviolet Dyneema, but I have shop bags and pouches in all the available colors (including the older Sapphire). I think you'd get good visibility against both Iberian and Ultraviolet. With the colors other than Solar, you also get the contrast of both the Dyneema color and the grid pattern against objects you place in the interior. I think this is slightly more prominent for the Iberian, but Ultraviolet also works pretty well. Remember, you're also looking for the contrast against the typical colors of items that you place inside the bag, as well as the contrast between the exterior color and the interior Dyneema.

What about cleaning? Do you ever take a vacuum cleaner to the inside of a bag that's dyneema-lined to clean out dirt? If so, does the dyneema pattern help?

My partner's steel aeronaut has an ultraviolet interior. before ordering it, we did wonder how dark thhe UV was going to be. it is actually quite bright (but not in an obnoxious kind of way) and stuff contrasts well against it. my co-pilot also has an UV interior and i haven't had any issues with finding stuff at all, it's a very nice middle ground between the super bright solar and the darker steel. an added bonus is that i think that it will be less likely to show any scuffs or muck than the solar.

I think it would be easier just to take it outside & shake it instead of using a vacuum.

I have the Tri-Star with Solar interior. I think the brightness of the dyneema is a non-issue with the Tri-Star just because of the horizontal orientation of the bag. None of the spaces are so deep that you stand the chance of losing something in the dark depths of the bag. I use packing cubes for nearly everything I pack so it's not like I'm elbow deep searching for an item like can happen with the Smart Alec. I used to hang a tiny keyring flashlight from the o-ring to search to the bottom of that bag. But the Tri-Star and the Aeronaut just don't have enough north-south depth to make it an issue for me. There are ways to pack that allow you to minimize losing small items, especially if you utilize packing cubes and pouches. The construction of these bags makes it ridiculously easy to stay organized if you take advantage of the add-ons offered.

The dyneema itself is proving quite easy to maintain. Even the time I had apple juice leak inside the side pocket, cleanup was easy with no visible staining. I shake the bag out when needed.

Love the new Ultraviolet dyneema and am enjoying my new Ultraviolet shopper. I am still on the fence about the Forest/Iberian combo.

I would eventually like to get a Tri-Star, but I'm favoring getting an Aeronaut first.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback thus far!
