    Aeronaut and accessories

OK, so I think the Fourth of July offer is a great way for me to ease my regret over not having placed an order for an aeronaut and some complimentary pieces before the price increases hit... So here I am looking for some thoughts and advice on what I should get. This will be my first entry into the world of Bihn!

Main item will be a Navy and Iberian Aeronaut with absolute strap and waist strap.

    Other items I'm considering:
    1 large aeronaut packing cube
    2 small packing cubes
1 end cube and/or convertible shoulder bag/cube (any thoughts on which of this ends up being more useful? I'm leaning heavily toward just one total here, and think the end cube is probably a better value for me at this time)
    1 clear organizer wallet
1-2 mini organizer pouches (headphones, other small electronic accessories?)
2 small organizer pouches (1 clear + 4th of july)
2-3 key straps (probably 1 of the longer ones and 1-2 of the shorter)
1-2 medium organizers (clear? dyneema? cordura?)
    padded organizer(s)?

Any other obvious ones I'm missing? I've read several lists of what sorts of things I can fit in the different size pouches, but I'm still having a hard time figuring out what I'd be most likely to actually use. Any thoughts on what size people seem to use the most of?

Many thanks in advance! I've gotten so much useful information from the forums already that I should thank everyone for all their posts and photos to date!

You've sure got a great list going there! If you'll be flying, I recommend the 3D Clear Organizer Cube and a keystrap so you can put your liquid toiletries in it and keystrap it inside the bag (then unzip, pull it out, rezip to the keystrap, leaving it attached) until you go through the TSA part of security. Very handy way to keep things together.

I also like the Clear Quarter Packing Cube for the rest of my toiletries, since being able to see in makes it easier to dig stuff out. And it has a fabric hook if you're likely to hang it in a bathroom.

Don't miss someone's recent suggestion of being able to stow a few things in the backpack strap area of the Aeronaut!

Also, I prefer the clear organizer pouches, because I think I'd forget which items I put in which color, but that's just me. I like being able to see inside. And you can still get different colors on the back for variety!

To be the most useful to you, it would help if we know what your plan to transport. (gear)

And what stature you or your clothes are, for example many of the posters here are petite, I and others are not and Tom, for example, is a tall man.

Yeah, that might have been helpful to provide %-)

I'm 5'9" average build male with decent fitness thanks to a 9 month old Spinone Italiano puppy. It'll be used mostly for vacations by car and a few times by plane plus some business travel by car. Suits would be in a separate garment bag. Trips will be anywhere from a long weekend to 10 days, give or take. I will almost certainly have a "personal item" carrying an iPad, smaller digicam and all the required accessories. I've never "one-bagged for more than a 3 or 4 day trip but think I can do it comfortably. For vacation I'm mostly wearing shorts/jeans/cargo pants and polos plus a sweater or jacket when colder.

Oh, and at least one of the trips each year will likely be to Europe and will involve train or small car over there.

I think your list is perfect!

Earbuds would fit a Mini Organizer pouch, I think the best option for them is a Padded Mini Organizer Pouch.

I find all Organizer Pouches sizes and configuration useful but I am partial to Medium.

Personally, I'd grab a couple more small organizer pouches. I have four that I carry around with me in my daily bag: one for receipts/coupons/small papers, one for craft notions, one for a small craft project, and a padded pouch that holds my small camera.

I picked up the Snake Charmer earlier this month, and I use it to keep all my cords and chargers organized at home. No more searching for where I left the camera charger/DS charger/phone charger... they're all in one spot and I can just grab what I want out of the bag when I need it.

You might also want to grab a handle loop to attach to an organizer pouch and hang on a doorknob. That's sort of like having the fabric hook on the organizer cube.

Well, I ended up placing my order yesterday, and it looks like I already have the tracking info--I assume that means they've started pulling and boxing my goodies?!

The order list is below. I'm sure I'll end up getting a few more things later, but I thought this would be a more-than-adequate start:

1 Aeronaut (Navy/Iberian) Absolute Shoulder Strap, Waist Strap
1 Packing Cubes Aeronaut Small, Steel
1 Packing Cubes Aeronaut Large, Steel
1 3D Clear Organizer Cube Steel
1 Clear Quarter Packing Cube Steel
1 Dyneema/nylon Organizer Pouches Medium, Iberian
1 Padded Organizer Pouches Mini (Black)
1 Color Key Strap Sapphire 16-inch
2 Color Key Strap Storm 8-inch
                  1 Clear Organizer Pouches Medium
                  1 Clear Organizer Pouches Small
                  1 Clear Organizer Wallet Black

It'll give me a very good idea of what I can use each type of cube or pouch for.

Thanks again for all the information y'all provide on these forums!

You must have the Clear Organizer Wallet. I bought it as a travel wallet so I could fit everything in and easily locate what I want but I carry it everywhere now. If I could just install an o-ring into my jacket pocket (to clip it to), I would be a very happy camper.

                        Good Advice

You're got some great advice and comments from everyone replying to this thread.
Touched on but not described in depth here is the capacity of the compartment that houses the backpack straps. I ignored it for several trips and now stuff a great deal in there without adding much to the profile of the bag. Small organizer pouches and just "loose" ends fit well.
