Request for help from our archivists (or, "Name that Color!")

I have a bag that needs identification. Can you help?

This is a Medium Cafe Bag that I snagged off of eBay. Here it is, next to some other Tom Bihn blues for comparison:

That's an Indigo SE on the right, a Sapphire Key Strap in the middle, and a Storm Key Strap below the Sapphire one.

I originally thought the color of this bag was Storm, but it's not. This bag is a greyer, lighter color than the current Storm. Have any of you seen it before?

The interior is Wasabi, as confirmed by the Wasabi Key Strap that's the handle for my SE.

Check out the label! Is that old? How old? There are a few differences between this bag and a modern MCB. Note the key strap inside (it's sticking out the top in the photo). It is sewn in. Also inside are two flat slip pockets rather than the pouchy slip pocket and pen holders of the current model. The back has a slash pocket which I think is like the current model. The zipper is different, too: shiny and silver, not black like the new ones.

I really like the size of this bag. I think it's going to see a lot of use. I also love the color combination. Whatever this blue is, it looks WAY better with Wasabi than my Storm Key Strap.

    What do you guys think?

Wasabi is *yellow*? I thought it was light green, like wasabi root/paste.

Dood, my photography skills are not the best. Wasabi is a light green. The blues look pretty true in that picture, though, and that's what really matters re: my question about the color. :-)

Ooooh, you guys need to huddle. That's very exciting.

ps. I almost typed "huggle" by accident. While I am sure you guys are all friendly and such, I doubt you need to half-hug, half-snuggle in order to remember something. :-D

I would kill for a bag with that exterior and a Cocoa interior. Well, not really. Maybe huggle.

I just compared Cocoa and this mystery Not-Storm blue, and @badger has a good eye. They look mighty fine together. I'd vote to have the Cocoa on the outside, though.

I vote in favor of Storm (or Not-Storm) and cocoa, too.

How goes the huddling/huggling, Katy? :-D

I carried my Mystery Bag for the first time today. Love it. This size is what I hoped the Small Cafe Bag would be. And now I see the wisdom in owning one of each. You just never know how you are going to like a bag until it becomes part of your everyday routine.

ps. I have another Mystery Bag on the way from eBay. I will post photos when it arrives. It appears to be a LCB with a built-in padded insert for a laptop...maybe an early Ristretto?

I love that you're buying Mystery Bags.

BTW, your signature: the new semester started two days ago, and I've been dealing with lots of students. Your quote has been running like a ticker through my consciousness.

Ah, students. This is one of my particular favorites and I'm tickled that you are identifying with it right now. :-)

I was going to search for it in the "New Bags" archive. Alas, there seems no longer to be a way to start with older posts and work back toward the present. Didn't it used to work that way?

I just hope you're not huddling together for warmth as you take shelter from the snow!

Hehe! We could not huddle together as we were not able to meet for a few days. Huddling will reconvine tomorrow.
