Well I have decided to buy a TB bag. I already have (some of you may be familiar with) a Deuter Futura 28, an Osprey Porter 46, and a Rick Steves original bag door bag. The Porter is similar in size to the Aeronaut. The Tri-star similar in size to the Rick Steves bag and the Western flyer is similar in size to the Deuter.
BUT the Tri-star is designed better than the RS bag because of the 3 compartments where RS bag only has one big open compartment. Also the Western flyer is designed better than the Futura in the sense that the Deuter bag is a backpack and not a streamlined suitcase. I want to be able to put the bag in front of me under the seat and I always pick an aisle seat-I believe there is less space on the aisle seat and the most in the middle seats. Of course I will be putting it inside a trash bag before it goes under the seat (see Moose's post here: http://forums.tombihn.com/travel-tip...g-storage.html about the scariness of airplane under-seats and front pouches).
I think my Deuter being a backpack will be too fat to put under the seat.
So now I am thinking maybe get the Tri-star. Has anyone seen them side by side? Does the Tri-star fit under the seats?
I thought the WF would be good because it would be my smallest bag then and I have seen HOW MUCH STUFF people are still able to load into the WF. I am striving to be an ultralight woman packer.(another reason I was considering the WF). I am not petite either so my clothes would be bigger than some other women's clothes-like a petite person for example. That's why I'm wavering between the two bags.
I'm going now to recheck the specs for the tri-star.
Any opinions either way?
