I was looking at the RFID blocking Passport Pouch, but stopped when I read it uses Velcro instead of a zipper. It just seems like a zipper would be more secure. Doing a search showed that the older pre-RFID pouches had a zipper. Can anyone with the passport pouch comment on how they like the Velcro? Thanks.

Aloha no Malamalama!
I own both the newfangled RFID version as well as the zippered version (thanks to marbenais--we traded a couple of TB items and I got her old sapphire zippered passport pouch).
You will probably want the RFID version if you have an RFID chip in your wallet. If I recall correctly, the chipped passports should have a little rectangular icon on the front cover, near the bottom under the lettering. I know my husband's new passport has one, whereas mine doesn't.
The RFID pouch is also lined with a kind of foil, making the pouch a little sturdier.
The main thing, though, is that the entire top of the pouch is velcroed, and it is VERY VERY VERY secure. It's not just a little velcro tab. That sucker goes clear across the entire top, and a flea won't even be able to sneak into the pouch!
The zippered version, on the other hand, feels thinner/flimsier because of the lack of foil, and uses a regular zipper like you see on the packing cubes. It's perfectly fine and you won't lose your passport out of it, but I'd say the RFID version is much more secure.
That said, I'm personally not a fan of the RFID version. The velcro is SO secure that you can't open it with one hand easily. It has tabs on both sides and you need to grab a hold and pry the velcro apart. I'm lazy... and since I don't have an RFID passport yet, I'm sticking with the zippered version for now.

I have the new RFID version with the velcro closure at the top. I used it once and have not used it since. It is secure, no question about it.
I much prefer the medium organizer pouch. It has room for my passport, boarding passes, pen and phone - with plenty of room to spare.
I wish TB issues a RFID version of the medium OP.

I have both the zippered and the velcro Passport Pouch, I like them both and prefer the velcro for travel.
I think both are a good idea for travel.
The Organizer Pouch can hold everything while at the airport both at the departure and arrival, they won't let you keep anything on you at security and you need the paperwork for the rental car or the hotel reservation if using the hotel shuttle.
Overseas, you need the custom forms and your passport.
Your passport is needed as well as every transactions afterward: rental car or hotel reservation.
The paperwork from the online reservation is always a must in case the person in the front desk overbooked by mixing online reservation and walk ins, the hotel computer runs an antiquated OS that decided to refuse any upgrade, so they can run the booking software, you arrive at night and a newly hired person has to checks you in at a snail pace.
After a long traveling day, a color coded travel stuff Organizer Pouch is always a welcome sight.
After the first night sleep and first breakfast at the new location , transfer one of the 2 or 3 copies of your passport in the Passport Pouch as well as copies of the credit cards, driver license and insurance card you are bringing. Keep one of the cc card in that Pouch.
The Organizer Pouch with the Passport and travel documents need to be housed in the room or hotel safe.
Please make sure the safe is safe, if you have any doubt, bring the passport, cc, insurance cards, driver license in the Passport Pouch, on your person, hidden under your clothing.
Many people use a decoy wallet with some change and small bills as well as cardboard credit card shaped things.
Use a cheap novelty stuff for that.
The best product for the real wallet is the Clear Organizer Wallet.
It is streamlined, lightweight and very organized.
I traveled for many years without the benefit of Tom Bihn items and designs, now, I don't go anywhere without them.Last edited by backpack; 06-02-2012, 01:25 AM.
