    Gatekeeper Rails on Cache

Are the rails supposed to come on all versions of the cache or just specific ones?

I have a horizontal Air 11" Cache and it doesn't have the rails, is it supposed to?

    Thanks!

    Gatekeeper Rails on Cache

Can someone send the the dimensions of the rails on a 6Z Vertical Cache (center-to-center or outer-edge to outer-edge)? I'm putting a couple of gatekeeper loops in a non-TB bag so I can carry my Cache I ordered in multiple bags. Cache arrives next week, but I'd like to get the bag ready this week. Thanks!

The rails on my 6Z cache are exactly 200mm outer edge to outer edge. Inner edge to inner edge is 149mm. There's a bit of give in them, obviously, so *precise* placement probably isn't utterly critical.

Just had a horrible thought - mine is a horizontal cache i.e. the rails run parallel with the short side.
Don't know if the vertical one uses different spacing? Although I'd expect for maximum compatibility that all caches and all bags would use common rail spacing wherever possible...

          DARCY! HELP!

(note to self: read post CAREFULLY and engage brain before replying!)

Yes, the spacing of the rails on the vertical caches with rails are different from those of the horizontal caches with rails. I even found out that the rail spacing is slightly different depending on the size of the Cache when I asked about this during a phone call to place an order that required a direct answer about current color options. The spacing of the rails in a cache for an iPad isn't exactly the same as for the laptops. The rail design can apparently accommodate a slight range of spacings, so they can design the placement slightly differently in some cases. For example, while I imagine you could make the rails on an iPad cache as wide as for the spacing on one of your laptop caches with rails, I imagine that having the weight support points of the rails not quite so far out makes the sliding behavior slightly better. All speculation on my part since I bought caches (without rails) for these items long ago.

@Hemel this is a relatively recent change. See Darcy's reply to Maverick in the rails for other bags? thread. I'll quote below:
You (and terayon) discovered something we haven't officially announced yet: many of our bags (Tri-Star, Brain Bag, Smart Alec, Ego, and others) now have rail loops designed to accommodate the Cache with Rails. We'll make the official announcement soon. Also of note: we'll soon announce that all Caches will be/are now made with the "rails" of 1" wide, lightweight nylon webbing that make them compatible with the rail loops. We think the lightweight webbing will be unobtrusive to those who don't perhaps plan to utilize the checkpoint friendly rails system and, for the people who do want to or might want to utilize the rails system, the addition of the webbing on all Caches allows for that.
Note that the rails system now in use for the Cadet is different from the previous system. You can read more about this in the Cadet 15/13 not listed thread. When the new Cadets were announced again in October, there were questions about how the rail design differed.

Amazing how a simple question kicks off an interesting discussion...
