Do Aubergine and Plum Go Together?

So, I am getting ready to take a trip (Air, Road, Sightseeing), and was planning on picking up a Daylight Backpack and a Small Cafe Bag. The clothes I am planning on packing go really well with my Aubergine accessories (Best Color EVER!), so I thought I'd get the DLBP and SCB in Black, since I know that would go with anything the Aubergine does. But then the Plum caught my eye...

(I should have paid more attention to Moosezilla's Plum SCB at the Mini Bloomington Tom Bihn Fest! I liked the color, but didn't think of comparing it to my Aubergine Side Effect.)

SO, for those of you who have both, do Aubergine and Plum look good side by side? Or should I order the DLBP and SCB in Black, and wait for them to be offered in Aubergine before ordering them again?

French blue might look nice next to aubergine?

Have you seen this: http://forums.tombihn.com/photos-vid...g-plum-2.html? If you scroll a bit down you can see both side by side.

My opinion: You can do it, but it is not my favorit combo. I'd rather combine thous colors with somethinb blue, like luvadabags says. Aubergine with navy and plum with french Blue. But the picture should give you an idea.

The Swift product page has a picture of a navy/aubergine/wasabi swift that is a good chance to see navy and aubergine together. Wish they still made that combo!!

I agree with @Ilkyway. You can put plum next to Aubergine, but the redder tones of Aubergine make this a somewhat difficult match. As @luvdabags suggested, French Blue goes well with both Aubergine and Plum. Storm actually goes even better with Aubergine, Navy, Steel, Plum, and Nordic, but the slightly lighter and steelier blue of Storm is probably less likely to sell as a backpack color than French Blue. So I ended up getting the Daylight Backpack in French Blue, with an alternate consideration of Black 400d Dyneema.

By the way @Sacharissa, I wish someone had taken a picture of your Smart Alec in Sage at the Mini Bloomington Tom Bihn Fest. (I have the Aeronaut Breve in Sage -- well, it's actually been "permanently adopted" by someone else, so the one I use is Crimson, which matches my Crimson Smart Alec and Lux bags of the period when you bought your Smart Alec.). If @readmore is at the Seattle Store meetup with @taminca in August, I hope she brings her Sage Smart Alec, because the web colors for the Sage Smart Alec in the old blog posts don't quite look like the Sage of my Aeronaut. The old blog picture I posted in the Smaller Smart Alec? thread shows a greener Sage than in my Aeronaut Breve.

          just my opinions. YMMV.

ETA: The Cafe bag pictures of French Blue and other bags tend to make it look brighter than when seen in person. @icebeng took pictures of pouches in French Blue/Storm. You can also read the discussion in the Synaose 25 in WHAT color?! thread and the linked posts. @icebeng ended up getting both Synapse 25 and Daylight Backpack in French Blue

I really wish more bags were available in Ultraviolet Dyneema...it would be perfect with both plum and Aubergine. :-)
Lots of assorted purples, some blues, and a bit of black: 2S19, 5SE, 2WF, MCB, SCB, Imago, 2S, LS, TT, K, 2QC, 5 3D, 4WFSBPC, 2WFBPPC, FJNB, 4Wallets, 4LSB, 2SSB, DLBP, Pilot, Assorted sacks, packing cubes, organizer pouches, key straps :-)

This color combination can also be seen in @Seikoguy's Post in the TB Anticipation Syndrome thread:

By the way, I used to just link pictures in the product page threads without having them upload as attachments, but I've found that they reuse some of the image names. So an earlier post of mine describing the closest match to the color of Nordic seen in person, by referencing a specific portion of a Nordic bag, now points to a bag of completely different color. Nothing I can do now to fix it.

I agree that Ultraviolet Dyneema goes with both Aubergine and Plum. I thought it might be overkill with Aubergine, but it looks good. I don't think the Aubergine/UV Side Effect is offered at present, but there's one in @Moose's Recovery from TBAS thread, and a picture of an Aubergine/UV PocketPouch in one of the other posts there. (There may be better PP pictures elsewhere, since @Moose immediately ordered a PP in Aubergine/UV.)

Surely one of us must have a photo - we piled enough bags onto the table in Caribou Coffee

I agree that Aubergine and Plum aren't a great combo, as the reddish-purple of Aubergine could clash with the blueish purple of Plum.
                    Collections:
                    Work EDC: SE + S19
Leisure: SCBs, FJN, Swift, lots of YSSs
Travel: WF + Pilot or SA, with SE/SCB
General organisation: More pouches, stuff sacks and cubes than you can shake a keystrap at!
Favourite TB colours: aubergine, forest (sniff!), linen, wasabi, UV
Hoping for: A new dyneema colour for YSSs; a Linen Side Effect; the return of Portable Culture!

I think plum or aubergine look really good with any green. I really like my kiwi/ultraviolet Swift. Aubergine and forest go well together as do olive and plum. I'm nor exceptionally fond of plum and aubergine. While I love both together they are a bit of an overload for me.

Ooooo...You had a Sage Aeronaut Breve? I'm so jealous! At any rate, your wish is my command. Here are a couple of shots of my Sage SA. It really depends on the lighting. Sometimes it looks very green -- a lovely, silvery green -- and sometimes it really looks grey.

Thanks for quick responses. Very helpful! It's pretty much as I expected...A little too much purple! (If that's even possible!) What I really want is the Daylight BackPack and Small Cafe Bag in Aubergine (preferably with a steel or ultraviolet interior where applicable...Are you listening Darcy>) Ah well. More thought will be required.

In the meantime, anyone have thoughts on replacing the included shoulder strap wrap on the SCB with the Ultrasuede? Is it worth the extra $12.00?

Thank you @Sacharissa! Yes, I put in a preorder for Sage in the Breve size of the Aeronaut. They made the regular size Aeronaut first, and there were so many preorders that they were running through all the color options. I was also afraid they wouldn't get around to doing the Breve version before I had to travel so I ordered a regular size Aeronaut in Crimson (my second choice color). But every time I look at that Sage Aeronaut, I think what a handsome color it is. I remember Darcy's Attention Sage Fans! thread, and her post that asked, somewhat bemused, why people liked sage.

If you want to see French Blue against Aubergine, Janine's post in the Fests? We have fests? (Denver in early July) thread about their Denver meet-up (under the Just for Registered Members forum) has a picture of a French Blue Cafe Bag in front of an Aubergine Smart Alec, and near an Aubergine/Hemp Imago.

                            Cheers,

Ristretti are made in Aubergine but, not the Cafe Bags or the Daylight Packsas, I believe, they are designed to be lightweight EDC.

Ballistic is heavier than Cordura, Parapack and of course Dyneema.

Because of its weight it is best kept for travel or briefcase bags the ones that bear the brunt of the hubs of travel or policies.

Since I have tried to put a moratorium on Cordura items, I would be delighted to see more bags in Aubergine.

PS: there is no such thing as too much purple.
