    YKK Zipper question

    Hello, first post here.
I'm not new to bags but I did just get my first Tom Bihn Synapse 25 and LOVE it.
I have had almost every high end brand pack out there and this one is "the one" if there is such thing.

Anyways my question about the YKK zippers is, do they smooth out a bit over time, they are kinda hard to pull due to the aquaguard.
I do love the YKK zippers, I won't buy a pack unless it has YKK.
Is there a type of zipper lube that would help?

Personally, I like a zipper with a bit of grab. It's less likely to be opened by pickpockets, because of the extra effort invovled.

I've tried rubbing bar soap on difficult zippers before, although I haven't tried it on the TB bags for the reasons above. I've limited it to clothing, because the soap will wash out easily.

I've found that the zippers loosen with time.

    YKK Zipper question

Is it a halcyon bag by any chance? I found halcyon had too much “slop” and made opening zips hard. That being said the cordura S19 I just got has pretty tight zippers but manageable. It might just be the size of the zippers. (Larger zippers are easier to open and smaller ones are harder I have found)

I've had my S25 for almost 7 weeks and the zippers are finally loosening up a little. It just takes time and use.

They loosen some, but in my experience, they will never be as easy to open as non-aquaguard zippers and/or zippers with smaller teeth. It's a trade-off between protection and easy opening.

I used 303 Aerospace protectant on all of my zippers and they are considerably smoother. I recommend this method for anyone that wants smooth zippers immediately. Armorall, or similar types of products, will also work.

Added the 303 and it worked excellent, a lot smoother.
