This is an old thread, but I'm just now seeing it. I would very much like another run of Smart Alec and pockets, especially in some of the new colors! Also, if the straps were updated to the edgeless ones and it got a frame, I'd buy in a heart beat.

I had just discovered Tom Bihn when the SA was being retired, so I never got the chance to try it. After trying both Synapses and the Guides Pack, I think the Smart Alec would be the perfect compromise. I realized that I preferred a middle ground between the organization of the Synapses and the black hole of the Guide Pack. I really liked the modularity/ expandability of the Smart Alec, and the external attachment points made it easy to carry large items on the outside. The size of the bag was also better for my everyday needs than the Guides pack.

Hello everyone, I am still all-in for a Smart Alec come back. It is my everyday pack. It is not perfect, no pack is, but I love it. It is comfortable enough for light EDC and capacious when needed. The UMP (Upper Modular Pocket) is essential. I have a big collection of bags, including fancy limited edition ones, but I always come back to my Smart Alec. It is an honest, well made pack, great for most occasions. It is super comfortable to carry and very light considering its size.

You lost me at laptop compartment because I'd rather use a padded sleeve I can remove myself but the rest of this sounds fantastic!
