    Synik 30 isnít too big

-ce178088-76ce-4420-aeba-ce57ae7d3118-jpegI fly weekly and wanted a bag that I could use that still fits under the seat, looks nice, is durable, and could fit my laptop. Originally looked at Tumi, but after doing some online research, read about other good brands like Briggs and Riley and Tom Bihn. I liked the looks of the Synik, and according to the specs, the 30 would fit my laptop, but not the 22.

Many of the reviews I read mentioned that the size of the Synik 30 was big, especially if you are under 5í6Ē (Iím 5í5Ē). But, since the 22 wouldnít fit my laptop, I went ahead and ordered a 30, figuring I could return it if it didnít work out.

Iím happy to report that size wise, itís fine. Iíve been using a Swiss Gear backpack (not sure of the model, but it is probably one of the most popular brands I see at the airport). The Synik 30 is roughly the same size, but looks a ton better. Everything that went into my old backpack easily fit into the Synik 30.

Iím posting a pic of the two backpacks together. Hopefully this will help someone thinking about buying and looking for a size comparison.

    Welcome to the Forums @F308gt4!

Glad the SN30 is working out for you. Your pic didn't post for some reason... try ensuring that it is less than 1MB

Hmm, can’t figure out how to make it appear. Any tips? I am uploading from my iPad, if that helps.

I can see the photo. Nice size comparison.

I ordered the 22 and 30 not knowing what will suit me. I may or may not keep both. They are coming very soon.

When I get mine I'll upload a photo too of the current backpack versus the new Tom Bihn.

yup, go into the imgur website, in the upper right click on your username and click on "images":

You'll see tiles of your images, click on the image you want to display - you'll see the options for that image - copy the "direct" link:

Now, on the TB forum, click the image tool, then the URL tab, then paste in the direct link. If the image is too big you'll get rejected and then have to re-do also unchecking the "retrieve remote file" option

Yeah, I don't know what the rationale was behind that cascading pocket situation on the Swiss Gear backpack, but it's both ugly and impractical. Love my synik! The design is ideal for me.

Glad to hear! I got my husband one for Christmas and was agonizing over the synik 30 or the synapse 25- he will primarily be using it for the gym but also whenever we travel.

Ok, looks like I got it to work, thanks GrussGot! Too bad I can’t edit the original post anymore, but at least it is here for reference.

I agree it’s ugly, but it did work pretty well. The Synik looks a thousand times better, and feels more durable.

Got my S30 today! As promised, here is the size comparison with my previous bag - Thule Enroute Escort 28L.

Both bags are empty. I didn't fluff up S30 and it's brand new out of the box.

thank you for following up! Personally, i had to return the 30 because not so much of its height (though it is tall) but more because of its sheer width. Im 5'5" and 115lbs and it just swallowed me up completely and felt so uncomfortable to carry. I bought the 22 and that felt INCREDIBLE to carry, however it just didnt work because i absolutely need to fit my 15" laptop for work in it. I wish so much that Tom would design a bag just like the 22 but a bit taller in order to accommodate a larger laptop.

I think asking to fit a 15inch laptop in a S22 may be too much?

I think I'll keep both my S22 and S30. The S22 keeps my 12.5inch laptop and it's close to being too snug.

I agree that cascading pockets are a bad design. I've been using that for 5 odd years and it became quite annoying.

I'd love to fit my 13+" laptop (HP Elitebook) into the S22.
    Bags - S25 (Mars Red balistic/Northwest sky/halcyon), S19 (Deep blue balistic/Iberian/halcyon). S22 (Aubergine)SCB (Nordic)
Accessories - including Nik's #4 wallets, ghost whales, Q-kits, pouches, stuff sacks, travel trays.

I agree KathyH. 13+ laptop would be ideal for the S22.
