    While I do keep many items tethered with pouches/key straps, I've traveled all over and lived in NYC with a Large Cafe Bag -- which has a significantly larger opening -- and have never encountered a security issue.

    Key straps hooked to O rings and a wallet or other important items makes it more difficult to get items out of your bag. Keeping the buckle next to your body would help too. IIRC you can hook a key strap across the top interior to help make things more difficult as well.
