I just came across this 2015 article on medieval travel tips. One of the quoted advice-givers recommends two-bagging it, with "Two bags, one very full of patience, the other containing two hundred Venetian ducats, or at least one hundred and fifty." There are a lot of people these days who recommend packing lightly by planning to buy whatever you need, which is probably equivalent to the advice to pack two hundred ducats; but I don't see many people recommending a bag full of patience. It's probably an idea that we should bring back!
