    Music for hard times

Given that we are all under increasing stress, how about a thread posting favorite music, either to calm us down or pump us up?

My favorite calming music is anything by Anouar Brahem. If you want a place to start, try the album "Le Pas du Chat Noir".

And for a pump-up, try "Show Your Colors" by Genevieve: https://www.npr.org/2015/06/01/411227694/genevieve or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=big8H6WLHds .
[I think I first learned about the latter here on the forum, but am not sure.]

    What are your favorites?

Nina Simone’s Here Comes the Sun ; Pink Martini for feel-good world-lounge background tunes; Sara Thomsen’s alto-folk is beautiful for soothing a rumpled spirit; Al Green/Annie Lennox Put a Little Love in Your Heart; I find Eric Whitacre choral music is a staircase to somewhere green, open, and free... And...Natalie Merchant could sing Anything and I’d be absolutely enraptured.

I go for music I can “enter”...whether by voice, dance, imagination...

For calming music I really enjoy anything by Kohala. These are Hawaiian artists and their website describes their style as an "acoustic blend of folk, island and jazz".
Today is a good day for a good day!

I have a Big Band mix I like for a gently upbeat vibe. Enya, Sarah McLachlan, Florence & the Machine, jazz mixes for mellow...
Sometimes words are too distracting and I go to Mozart and other classical
I like all the blues and greys...and all the happy citrus colours too! My search unicorn is the Sapphire Dyneema original Small Shop Bag...

I love this video by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra playing the Ode to Joy while stuck at home!

Great choice! I love his music too (my favorite: "Le voyage de sahar")! Along these lines: Rabih Abou-Kalil is another great musician blending oriental music and Jazz.

Something more mainstream: If you love Simon & Garfunkel try the Kings of Convenience, you'll love it! A safe bet if I need something to calm me down.

The album Symphonic Klezmer by the David Orlowsky Trio. Beautiful music which is best enjoyed when you’re just lying down on the sofa and listening...

For some crazy fun, The Zap Show always makes me smile. Saw them live and it was an awesome evening. Here’s a video to give you an idea: https://youtu.be/9lm5gUEGXAo

I also listen to this when I’m down because it makes me feel good (all down to childhood memories): https://youtu.be/TliYqHuS8ZM
I have no idea, is Westernhagen even know outside of Germany?

I've rediscovered my love of The New World Renaissance Band since becoming a shut-in. I listened to them a lot after getting to hear Owain Phyfe at a renfair in 2004, I loved his voice and was very sad to learn of his passing in 2012.

If you’re looking for opportunities to laugh like I am, and there’s other people in the house who will be hearing your playlist — sneak the following songs into the mix and keep a totally straight face when they come on. This is most effective if you're playing your usual/go-to playlist, so everyone is familiar with the usual songs.

Nugget In A Biscuit — Toby Turner & Tobuscus
Dolphin On Wheels — Kill The Noise, Dillon Francis
Kazoo Kid Trap - Original Mix — Mike Diva
Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

Current carry: testing new potential materials in the form of Original Large Shop Bags.

For those who love Hamilton or are just curious about it I'm happy to report it is currently available on Youtube. If you search Youtube for Full Hamilton Musical you'll see the video listed. I've left the last word out of the title. Video is 2:27:39 long and is very well recorded. About 40 seconds in the video portion starts working perfectly. We were able to see it live in Portland by paying high $$ price on Craigslist - worth every penny! So nice to pull it up Youtube on the television and watch the original cast.

I've been streaming Tycho and Lindsey Stirling while working. Not relaxing enough to put me to sleep, not amped-up enough to drive me batty.

I love good old country music! It always makes me smile and think of sunny days riding in a truck with the windows down on a backroad in parts of Virginia...Oh to be 16 againWink Last night we all sat outside on the back porch, had cold beers or a sprite for the kiddo, Velveeta and Rotel dip (because one needs to have a block of fake cheese and several cans of rotel...even in a pandemic) with chips, and blasted country songs on Alexa. It was a party! “Rock me Mama like a wagon wheel,” is a fave at our house right now.

Funnily enough, right now my 5 year old is obsessed with Achy Breaky Heart and there is even a dance along to it on the GoNoodle app for kids!
