Shoulder straps fit issue with the L12

Thanks very much for your feedback, @moriond! I really doubt anyone near me has an L12–I found myself educating the store associates at Backwoods on the TB brand just last week. They only knew of one other customer who used it around here. �� I am 5’3, small, with bony, narrow shoulders—my S19 at its shortest strap length is way too loose(but it is comfortable and great for travel), so I imagine it is the fault of my build rather than a production flaw. When people used to lament the straps on the original Luminary, hoping for a new design, I remember thinking, please don’t change a thing!

For what it’s worth, I am also having a hard time with the overall fit of the L12. My original Luminary fit so well I would forget I had it on. I keep comparing the two, trying to figure out why the 12 is causing me problems. I also am finding the L12 intolerably heat trapping in the summer humidity—even packed with only a few things (keys, wallet, phone etc) for short trips, it is making my back super hot.

Thanks for your feedback, good to know I'm not the only one. For me it has markedly improved with wear. It's still not the perfect fit, but it's not bad anymore either now that the straps have become a bit more flexible. I agree about it being hot to carry though - we've had the first few warm days and I carried it mostly over one shoulder. Maybe I just need to accept that there isn't a bag for every weather. I thought about getting a MCB as an alternative for summer days. I think my SCB might be too small for a regular work day.

Unearthing this thread, because in the end I sold the L12 because the ill-fitting straps were just too much of an issue. I want to buy a new backpack this year, mostly because I have occasional shoulder and neck trouble and I suspect carrying a backpack instead of a messenger more often could be helpful. But I’m hesitant to order another backpack because it’s such a big expense and I’m afraid I’ll have the same problems.

Has anyone who had an issue with the L12 also tried the new straps of the Synic (that the Synapses are going to get)? Did you have a problem with those?

@Christina, you said at the start of this thread that you had less of an issue with the L15 - is it a big difference or just slightly better? Because I did like the look and layout of the L12.

Hi @b1gsky, yes I can use my L15 without issue. The straps on it lay much better on my shoulders. I also really like the new Edgeless straps. They are MUCH more comfortable than the edge-bound Synapse straps. For what it’s worth I also like the Daylight backpack straps! Obviously that bag doesn’t have much support for heavier loads but for medium loads I find it quite comfy.

Thank you very much!! I do like the DLBP too, that’s the only TB backpack I have at the moment. That’s really helpful, I think I’ll keep an eye on the colors offered and then either try the L15 or go with a pack that has the new edgeless straps if the right combination comes around. The S19 might be a bit too big for EDC for me though... Not sure. For a bigger backpack I’m definitely waiting on the new Shadow Guide (Kat said that it should be in the mid-20s, size wise).
