What color is this Smart Alec?

I picked up a used Smart Alec, and I am wondering what color it is. I’m afraid the pictures aren’t a great representation, but is this Nordic, or was it perhaps made in another shade of blue?

And I was also curious as to what year TB turned the zippers so the aquaguard was on the inside?

Hard to tell from your photos on my laptop, but if that is a dark/deep blue, it should be the original Nordic with white grid lines. The current Nordic has dark grey grid lines and is a bit different blue.

If it's more of a charcoal/dusty black colour, then it's Steel (not sure if the SA was made in Steel dynema/halcyon though). The current 'Original' 400d halcyon is a true black with white grid lines... Steel is like a dark grey/charcol with white grid lines. The current Black is with grey grid lines.

To the best of my knowledge, those were the only 400d dynema/halcyon fabrics - @Moriond would know more.

ETA: @pammy recently posted pics of her original (white grid) Nordic Smart Alec...she had nice lighting and I think it shows the colour pretty well

Looks like original nordic which was a darker and more royal blue, with white grid lines. Nice looking bag, looks like you scored a deal, congrats!

Thanks, @G42 and @melminimalist. It’s more of a dark/deep blue, so it’s probably original nordic then, although it is not as vibrant a blue as the one in @pammy’s post. Maybe it looks like that in sunlight - I won’t know until tomorrow.

I agree with the others that the color of your Smart Alec is original Nordic dyneema (halcyon). I think it’s the lighting that makes it look so dark. Here is a picture of packing cube shoulder bags together in original black, steel, and original Nordic 400d dyneema so you can compare the colors.

I agree. Honestly, even though the first photos were less than ideal, the color was not that far off how I perceived it last night. The sunlight changes it much more than I expected.

It's a lovely bag!
I have the new Black (dark grid) Smart Alec, but have my eyes peeled for one of those original Nordic ones... there was one on eBay recently but it was bid up very high.

Glad your mystery is solved. Lighting makes all the difference in how colors appear. I love my original Nordic Smart Alec. It’s my favorite and most used TB backpack. Enjoy your new SA.
