Who uses those zipper pulls & cords that come with the SE, CP, etc?

I'm still trying to figure out all these accessories. We received our SEs & CPs last week and in one of the pockets, there is a little ziplock bag with plastic zipper pulls and pieces of cut cord. We are just trying to figure out why? Do people use these? Is there a benefit?

Also, are there other accessories we are missing out on? I see lots of these triangle clip things and carnibers, but I don't know what to do with them.

How many of you use the zipper things that come with the SE and CP?

Many do. I don't like the jingle of zippers and the cords reduce the noise by a lot. Plus, I like having the extra length to grab onto. (The silver zips are smaller than the old black ones.) I use them even in my Little Swifts and Swifts, which I've noticed don't get the zipper cord treatment as much as backpacks.

The cords are zipper pulls and can be added to the zippers for comfort/ease. Available for sale are colors, to either blend in or accent your bag. The carbiners are good for backpacks but can be used to combine lots of things. I'm keeping some just in case since they're inexpensive. I plan to jazz up my SEs with color zippers for fun, and make fun short handles out of 16" keystraps.

Some people prefer the cords to the metal pulls because they're quieter. Also, it might be easier in some situations to clip or tie the cords together to make zips harder to open, and some people just like the look better.

You can thread the cords through the metal pulls in various ways (some quieter than others), tie different types of knots or use different colours to make it quicker to tell which zip is which by feel or by sight, our you can cut off the metal pulls and replace them with the cords (though TB won't cover the pulls under warrantee in that case, i.e. they won't replace them if you change your mind later).

And sometimes it's just about making a bag your own!

I use them on all of my bags. I have them on both my Empire Builder and Aeronaut woven through the metal tab in the same fashion as shown on marytattoo's photo above. I find this makes it easier to grab and grip the pull and it cuts down on the jingling.

On my Smart Alec, I actually bit the bullet and cut the metal tabs off with a pair of snips and put the cord though the base of the pull in its place. With the number and configuration of the zippers, this seemed to work better.

On my Guide's Pack, I have the cords it came with woven through the zipper like on the EB, but they're just knotted at the end instead of having the plastic pieces. The cords are longer too, and this configuration works well with gloves. I've thought about cutting the metal tabs off completely on this one too, but haven't really felt the need to do so. Even with both setups, I'm not sure either is better and for me it comes down to preference.
