I can't find it anywhere - Ready to Ship, In- Production or Retired Designs. Anyone know its status?
My Dell E6500, a 15" laptop which I don't use anymore but still have around, fits in a Cadet briefcase, an Empire Builder briefcase, a Daylight backpack and a Luminary 15 backpack. It just fits in...
Adam,
There is only one size of the Cadet now. The retired Cadet is smaller than the current one.
Daylight backpack
Thorn,
The Aeronaut has grab handles at each end, which I find very useful. The Road Duffle doesn't have the handles.
Yes, it really weighs that much. That's why I switched from an Empire Builder to a Cadet, which I recommend.
The stated weight may include the plastic dividers, but even without them, it still...
I've had a Daylight Backpack for several years and occasionally open it while its on one shoulder. Its easy to do. Just remember to have the zipper slides facing you.
This will evoke a knowing laugh from some of you all:

Somewhere - probably in one of the two Tom Bihn Forums Bag Hacks videos - is a method of taking up the straps. I did it to my Daylight Backpack a few years ago and its worked well. Doesn't require...
Camp Time (www.camptime.com)
I have an earlier version of their Roll-A-Chair. It is very light and is comfortable for sitting. Not well suited for lounging or dozing.
Its the most portable...
Cazique - You're welcome.
Solar isn't available from the factory anymore. It's occasionally available on the secondary market (ebay, craigslist, etc.) or as trade through this forum.
BWeaves - All of me is called John. Most of the time, anyway.
I'll be at the north end (17th Street asphalt paved end across from Barnes & Noble) of Union Square Park on Thursday, February 23rd at 1:30 PM with my Navy/Solar Cadet if anyone wants to see it. ...
If the weather's decent, I recommend the boat ride from Westminster to Greenwich and back:

Despite the Page Not Found notice, the link works.
Side Kick and Daylight Backpack:
My newly arrived ballistic nylon Side Kick fits vertically in the DLBP front pocket, horizontally or vertically in the main compartment and vertically in either one...
The Aeronauts have handles at both ends, which i find very useful for sliding my Aeronaut in and out of shelves, racks, airplane overhead bins and cars. The Road Duffels don't have those handles.
Personal item - Pilot. Its the best all around non-backpack bag. Just make sure your laptop will fit.
It will do everything you mentioned and in dyneema it will probably stuff inside a main bag.
A Cadet with documents in manila folders is how I do it. Works very well. It will all come down to how big your small lunch is.
Fulton,
I recommend the Olight i3s on its lowest setting as a low level light. Its compact and uses one AAA battery. Currently available new from various vendors on ebay and probably other places.
Jenne,
There isn't a new Cadet. Previously there were two sizes available but then the smaller size was discontinued. It happened a few years ago.
I recommend stepping up to an Empire Builder only if you are going to be regularly carrying a lot of stuff as KatrinkaWinkle does. It a great bag with a lot of capacity but weighs 4 pounds empty.

The Cadet is a great small work bag. It will carry file folders horizontally. It has one long zippered outside pocket in front of the main compartment with various sized open top pockets inside for...
Lime,
The simplest way is to remove the plastic insert with the three ring binder from the FJN and carry one or more Levenger Circa notebooks inside, but not attached to, the FJN.
The Cadet is a great small work bag for carrying file folders horizontally. It looks like the attaché case it is and doesn't have a dedicated water bottle pocket.
The Pilot is a better all around...
